Technology Woman hears her own voice for the first time

I’ve probably heard Glenn promote Esteem hearing aids from Envoy Medical dozens of times.  But perhaps the best advertisement for the company isn’t an advertisement at all.

One 29-year-old woman’s personal story we featured last week has become a viral video sensation (now at 4.2 million+ views and counting) and shows what a difference technology like Envoy’s Esteem is making for so many people.

I was born deaf and 8 weeks ago I received a hearing implant. This is the video of them turning it on and me hearing myself for the first time :) Edit: For those of you who have asked the implant I received was Esteem offered by Envoy Medical.

In case you missed it…

Strange how people will politicize this. This is such a beautiful thing to see. Thank you Lord for the gift of hearing that so many of us seem to take for granted.

I am happy for here, but also pity that she will now be able to hear what BO’s teleprompter has to say.

A Glenn Beck sponsor? Another great example of objective journalism from The Blaze!

Your comment is humorous when placed (as it indeed is placed) next to ZCAT’s comment about The Blaze being slow to present this story. Think about it. ;)

We need an update on little boy GB was helping back at 828. Beck was going to pay for his surgery. I can’t remember all the details. I just remember Beck showed the little boy and his family, and was waiting on something before he could get the surgery. I think the little guy was going deaf or something.

What do you mean, “once again?”

“The Blaze” isn’t Glenn. I believe people who work at The Blaze decide to post many things, and not all have to be up to date. I saw this yesterday, too. But Fox News just had it this morning as well, “late.” The first thing that came to my mind was not, “Wow, Fox is so behinf on this!” For this is not the type of main headline story that needs some kind of a speedy date! It’s only “in case anybody missed it,” posting it for anyone to see. And I think probably The Blaze has other such tidbits of news that they didn’t have before, but decided to put now because they weren’t “researching it,” but like others, thought it was moving, and to Blaze viewers, felt it CONVENIENT to add it.

When Glenn boasts about being before everyone else on things, he’s not talking about anything like this, but only those things that he’s concerning himself with, or studying, more specifically. So, please, give Glenn, and The Blaze a break. When Glenn criticizes pther media for being behind on stories, it’s not on stories such as this for goodness sake! it’s on extremely, essencial and important news stories! But more importantly, stories that he feels they actually do know what is going on, but intentially decide not to “go with” for bias reasons. Or, they don’t even bother to research the most important stories of our day because of their inner biases. So… come on.

@ADREFS I agree with you 100% something fishy about this story.
And sorry DEELI she does speak with an accent, go back and listen to her say
“No not Really” when the technician asks her if it is too loud……
    definitely a southern accent.
This woman has heard her voice before.
Just maybe not as clearly as with the Esteem

From the hotlink to the original story; “I had an implant put in 8 weeks ago called The Esteem Implant by Envoy Medical,” Churman wrote on her YouTube channel. “I was born deaf and have worn hearing aids from the age of 2, but hearing aids only help so much. I have gotten by this long in life by reading lips. This was taken as they were activating the implant.”
This would explain why she has been able to train herself to speak clearly… Seems hearing aids kept her from being ‘totally’ deaf… It seems the difference is miraculous… Great thing!!

Hey, any chance we can stop being jackasses about the tattoos?

I don’t really prefer them either, but we are a community geared towards freedom right?

If she wants them, she can have them.

    Stop being putzes.

The boy is not old enough for the implants. Glen has upgraded his hearingaids and has promissed him the operation when he is old enough.

My daughter is deaf, she learned to speak with the help of two hearing aids, many coaches, and a spoon to teach her how to shape her tongue to each word (we came up with that one). This young lady sounds like she put the work in, now she will hear her own voice, her own tone, I don’t blame her for crying, I would too.

She may have been hearing impaired but not deaf. She speaks too well to be totally deaf at birth. Come on and give the story some truth. By the way, If she is hearing for the first time please tell her that those tattoos make her look TRASHY.

Quite true. Even as she put the device down, she acknowledged the other woman’s questions in the vid questions. Maybe she could have afforded to “hear” her own voice by saving the money for heaing aids rather than spending it on all her tattoos.

Those of you who are doubting that this is real, that’s your right I guess. It just makes you uneducated about the process and the technology, but it’s your right. Those of you who are busy trashing her tattoos…. seriously? Get a life you idiots. One of the main reasons people who are deaf talk funny is because they can’t HEAR what their voice sounds like. Maybe this lady sounds normal because she CAN hear her voice now.

BCGriffin… It‘s people like you who know how to do nothing more than to tear down other people’s Faith, Hope and Charity! Do you really think for one second that God Loves this woman any less because she has tattoo’s on her body??? NO of course not! This woman has been given a gift and eventhough through a man’s hands… It’s still a gift from God!
4BLACKHOURSES… Don’t stoop down to agree with “BC”… Did you not read the whole report? She had received a hearing “Implant”… Now… Have you ever known of an “Implant” that was “hand held”?
Come on people… This woman has just had a wonderful gift… One that most take for granted but that she will charish for the rest of her life… Don’t tear her down but rather be happy for her!
Even if her hearing might of only been impaired… IT WAS STILL IMPAIRED TO SOME DEGREE REGARDLESS!!! That’s obvious in her reaction to sound… Even a blind man could see that!

I’m confident that he really glories in people moving forward, and having a better quality of life. God bless this young lady, and God bless Glenn Beck in all you do.

I’d “speak my mind” if I could see the screen through the tears!! If this IS for real, we need the MSM to “pick up on it”…..how come they haven’t?? Probably because GB had something with promoting the Esteem device I’d dare say. What a shame! God bless this young woman, and I hope she gets more “media” attention, and/or can be followed up with to find out if indeed it was that “easy” for her to speak so clearly on first try.

Sorry to rain on the parade here but her speech, what little we heard of it, sounds way to good for a deaf person who has never even heard her own voice before. My 47 year old sister was born deaf as well, and having grown up with 5 siblings, very proactive parents and countless hours of therapy and coaching her speech has always been regarded as vastly superior to all of her friends. Yet, she still speaks very differently from a hearing person. The fact that this woman spoke very clearly, and with an accent, seems fishy to say the least to me. I would LOVE to believe this but am having a very hard time doing so. Perhaps a small child could accomplish this, but it just seems highly doubtful that this device could just replace all those long lost aural connections and suddenly everything just turns on.

ADREFS, I am so sorry that your experience for your sister wasn’t as good as for this young lady but, in your sisters case, it had much to do with the hearing technology available to her at the time.
First, the young lady here is not speaking with an accent; it’s the woman talking to her that has the accent.

The latest technology for your 47 year old sister when she was learning to speak would have been between three and four decades ago. That’s a huge difference from today. Ponder the technology of a computer between three or four decades ago and that will put this young girls current experience into perspective.

She must have worked very hard to be able to speak. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to figure out how to talk without being able to hear. What a wonderful story. When Jesus healed the deaf people. I bet their reaction was a lot like this young woman. Bless her heart.
