Politics Sen. David Vitter uses honey badger meme on Senate floor

A dorky video that went viral earlier this year got a nod by Sen. David Vitter (R-La) on the Senate floor Wednesday while he talked trash about this Saturday’s LSU-UA football game.

“It really doesn’t matter who LSU’s opponent is, because, as we say in Louisiana, the honey badger takes what he wants, and we look forward to doing that on Saturday night,” Vitter said to Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala), according to the Washington Post.

That “honey badger just takes what it wants” bit was made popular by a YouTube video (watch below) that parodies TV nature programs. “Honey badger” was given as a nickname to LSU’s cornerback Tyrann Mathieu and the school’s collegiate clothing store has slapped the phrase on fan shirts.

UPDATE: Several errors have been corrected to this post (too many to point out) thanks to our astute readers. This will teach me to never, ever write about sports again.

Eddie, glad to help out and I am impressed it was “corrected” that quickly – my faith in the Blaze is restored ;-)

Also, since you are from the Deep South you know college football is a religion so getting those kind of facts straight is critical LOL BTW – I was serious about the free room and board and going to a Bama game — so if you want to escape the smell of Zuccotti park and come “home” to SEC football let me know. I travel a lot and am in NYC a fair amount so know you miss the BBQ and peach cobbler since they don’t “make it” up there…..

Wow – must admit I am totally disappointed in the Blaze on this one. FIRST, LSU plays UA this weekend….NOT AU. AU is Auburn University and our ARCH RIVAL. We are UA (University of Alabama). SECOND, the LSU mascot is the TIGER and they say GEAUX TIGERS to each other and to their opponents (we say Roll Tide). The nick name honey badger comes into play because one of their players has that nick name:

Sounds to me like we need to get a couple of the Blaze folks down here in the Deep South for some proper education on the fine art of SEC Football (hint SEC aint the Securities Exchange Commission). I am more than happy to provide free room and board to any of the Blaze staff/crew wanting said education. Said education involves attending a Bama game (sorry, you buy your own ticket but room and board are free) and eating some good ol’ Alabama BBQ and Peach Cobbler. Just contact me and we’ll work out the details.
