Please, Please, could you please stop the horrid irritating slide out on every story telling me to view the next story…for gods sake…we are trying to read THIS story first….then go to the next one…..but you keep interrupting and overriding the reading with the sillly slide out.

    Its simply childish and silly.

    Stop it.

      (no relation to Bricko)

Apologies for also posting off topic, but I agree — and think that, if polled, the great majority of readers would also agree.

I think usability guru Vincent Flanders of “Web Pages That Suck” has also criticized the use of such DHTML techniques. I surmise that it’s more of a “look what I can do” element that the designer included, to ostensibly promote “stickiness.” Maybe there are stats showing that it works, but apparently spam does, too. That doesn’t make it a good thing.

In the year or so that I have viewed The Blaze, I can probably count on three fingers the number of times I’ve clicked on the “next story” slide out, except to close it. Might as well include a virtual fly to swat on each page.

To any designer who may read this, I think I speak for the majority in affirming that now, in 2012, most of us know how to navigate a website, and unavoidable popups are as irritating as they were more than a decade ago.
