Everyone knows former Vice President Al Gore once took a lot of credit for the creation of the Internet. And everyone laughs at it. At a campaign event in South Carolina on Wednesday, Mitt Romney tied Gore’s claim that he helped create the Internet to Newt Gingrich.
Here’s what he said via the Spartanburg Herald Journal:
“The speaker just the other day at the debate was talking about how he created millions of jobs when he was working with the Reagan administration,” Romney said. “Well, he’d been in Congress two years when Ronald Reagan came to office. That would be like saying 435 congressmen were all responsible for those jobs. Government doesn’t create jobs. It’s the private sector that creates jobs. Congressmen taking responsibility or taking credit for helping create jobs is like Al Gore taking credit for the Internet.”
And here‘s Gingrich’s quote about job creation from Monday’s debate Romney was referring to:
“As a young member of Congress, I worked with President Ronald Reagan. We passed an economic growth package. We created 16 million jobs. The American people within a framework that Reagan had established created 16 million jobs.
As speaker I came back — working with President Bill Clinton, we passed a very Reagan-like program, less regulation, lower taxes. Unemployment dropped to 4.2 percent. We created 11 million jobs. Now, those are real numbers that people can verify out in the open.”

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 1:09amRomney‘s remark doesn’t even touch base with what Gingrich said. I don’t trust Romney either….to me he has the same “yes we can” attitude as Obama…just smug talking points. Newt isn’t my first choice either but he has to be close enough, comes closer than Romney in my opinion, but I would do what I had to do to say so long to Obama.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 3:02pmAnd yet, Romney is promising to create jobs when he becomes president. It seems to me he can’t have it both ways. Either the President and Congress have something to do with it, or they don’t. My problem with Romney is he is always spinning and posing. You can’t trust a word he says. You need to have it corroborated by someone you do trust. I can’t vote for a man like Romney for President. He stands a little too close to the “Angel of Light” in character.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 1:07amIt might help if you looked at Romney with a full lens and not sound bites or media fed views. Romney has said multiple times it is Gov regulation and Gov interference that kills jobs… He wants to facilitate an environment where jobs can grow, not have government create them. It takes time and effort to listen, but worth knowing candidates views.
While I prefer Ron Paul, I would be ok with a Romney presidency (and will vote for him if the nominee) because he will get our fiscal house back from the path of insanity – but probably would not be a long term solution like Dr. Paul.
Ron Paul 2012!!!
