UPDATE: Many Palin supporters have read this post and taken issue with the fact that it does not mention Palin was actually asked by “Newsweek” to write about her experience raising a special needs child. She did not approach the publication and that is a crucial piece of information that should have been included for BLAZE readers.
This post was a brief analysis of the perception I, among others, had of Palin contributing to a magazine she regularly criticizes. And though my thoughts on Palin’s column still stand, it’s also important to acknowledge that Palin’s experience raising her son Trig is a fascinating story and is worth a read in her book “Going Rogue.” –Eddie Scarry, Eddie@theblaze.
What’s the first thing that came to mind when you heard that Rick Santorum‘s special needs child was in the hospital with pneumonia late last month? I bet all of Mitt Romney‘s money it wasn’t Sarah Palin unless you are Sarah Palin.
In an op-ed for “Newsweek,” a magazine she loves to hate, Palin ever so delicately tied her experience raising her son Trig, who has Down syndrome, to Santorum.
Of the roughly 900-word article, 123 of them relate to Santorum and his daughter Bella who was born with Trisomy 18, a disability similar to Down syndrome.
It’s all downhill from there. For more perspective, the names “Rick” and “Santorum” appear three times total and are all found in the first paragraph. The word “my,” in reference to Palin herself, appears 15 times throughout the rest. I didn’t bother searching for “I” and “I’ve.”
Read the article here.

Palin an apology for his nasty and demeaning comments. From the Daily Beast spokesperson: “We asked Sarah Palin if she would like to share her personal story about life with a child with special needs upon learning about Senator Santorum’s decision last week to place his campaign on hold to be with his daughter,” the spokesperson emailed.

Feb. 7, 2012 at 3:58pmWOW! Look at how dramatic some of you are….
Eddie Scarry wrote a good piece of his opinion about Sarah Palin. The Daily Beast promotes Palin and used Santorum’s child with a disability to get Sarah into the spotlight and Sarah soaked it up. That is simple TRUTH, like it or not.
Eddie was not demeaning Sarah having a child of need but was simply pointing out that instead of focusing on someone actually in the race with a child in need and speaking about him, Rick Santorum, Sarah and/or the Daily Beast chose to focus on Sarah which correlates to Sarah always seeking media attention either for $ or to remain relevant.
Add in Stacy Drakes drama twitter feud and we have by definition those who seek attention, regardless of whether it is negative or positive.

It’s difficult to pinpoint the premise of where you come from in this excuse for writing that at best equates to putrid slime that congeals at the bottom of a dumpster. Palin’s article was a beautiful window into her life that serves as a perfect vehicle to say ‘Hey Rick, I feel for you’. After reading her article, go figure, I feel for Rick too. I also feel for Sarah Palin, my brother and sister in law, and anyone else who has a special needs child.
Are you seriously judging the validity of Palin’s article on quantity of words pertaining to Bella vs. quantity of words pertaining to her struggles with Trig? What sort of parochial reasoning is this? Are you a second grader?
You are like the pharisees at the pool of Bethesda who chose to dismiss the incredible miracle of healing a lifelong paralytic in favor of accusing Christ of breaking the sabbath because the miracle was tantamount to working. Feb. 6, 2012 at 11:05pmFirst, to all the people falling all over themselves to decry the Blaze and Glenn Beck: take a deep breath and get some perspective. This is not a site for pro- Palin, pro- GOP, pro- anything. It’s designed to bring you the news of the day and give a different perspective on that news from various people. Do you honestly think they had a meeting with everyone there and Glenn on Skype and said “what can we do to bash Palin today?” Really? In addition, this is not a “news” story per se, it’s in the Blog section, in other words OPINION. Eddie Scarry has an opinion about this piece by Sarah, and he shared it. Guess what..that’s what he’s getting paid to do. And you have the right to disagree with his opinion and voice it. If you are reading this site, or any other, specifically to get your own opinion thrown back at you every day, you really need to expand your horizons a bit.
As far as Eddie’s opinion goes, I don’t share it, and I agree with some of the sentiments here that this particular perspective is out of whack. Does that mean I’ll stop coming here and getting information, reading other’s opinions or sharing MY opinion? He!! no!
Eddie, Palin’s piece was touching and had a good message. That she related to Santorum in the article was merely a way to acknowledge his family’s ordeal in a way that directly relates to the subject of her article. I think it’s awfully knee-jerk of you to allude to her exploiting Rick’s troubles for a reason to write an artic

Everyone, please keep in mind that if you really want to share your comments with the writer of this Blog Post, there is a little link at the top of the posting that will allow you to email them your opinion.
Glenn has stated that he does not going to micro manage the Blaze. He wants the writers to be free to write their stories. However, this is not an article, it is a Blog posting. If you click Eddie Scary’s name, you will see his other posts. This is equivalent of calling an editorial piece (Opinion) a news article. Or saying the The O’Rielly Factor, Hannity, and Hardball are news shows. They are purely opinion shows based on current events. Like Talk Radio is not news, it is exactly what it is labeled: talk radio of the current topics in the news.
Granted, you all have a right to your opinion on the author’s opinion on this topic. However, blaming the Blaze is just really low. At least the blaze allows him the liberty to make a statement, one of which I am sure Glenn would personally have the same reaction. If Glenn was to censor blogs and micro manage the articles, what real freedom does he give the authors? I am sure Glenn will be notified of the piece and handle it, but to honestly think he has infinite time to manage GBTV, his radio show, and the Blaze is a sign of naive thinking. Glenn has too much time prepping for his shows to be reading every article and okaying it. Express your concerns, but don’t kill the medium.

Feb. 7, 2012 at 2:11pmI mean, would you rather like Fox News or CNN that filter their personal agendas? Glenn doesn’t have an agenda. He simply wants the truth. This is what Eddie got from reading the Palin piece. Does it make him right? No. Does it make his point any less offensive? No. However, blame him not the Blaze. The Blaze at least will give you unfiltered pieces, and GBTV. That is more than any other news source, or opinion piece, out there.
Like you all will miss the unedited images of the Wazone that is Mexico. If you ask me, I would like to know what is actually happening on the border and in the country directly to our south. Our current mainstream media chooses to glance over it or barely deliver the severity of the situation. The deaths are pouring into the American side. You dropping your subscription, or refusing to sign up, or never reading on the blaze will only be hurting yourself.
With any source, you will have objections. You have to filter what you read and accept personally. I watch and listen to other mediums besides GBTV and the Blaze. I disagree with lots of points from all of them, but I am at least being informed.
Eddie,
I think you really need to read the piece with an open mind. After all, the title of Palin’s piece alone shows it was going to be about her experiences with Trig. It was obviously brought on by the recent issues with Bella, but was not about Bella. She was simply relating to the Santorum’s.

Feb. 7, 2012 at 3:49pm@Johnny, great points, all.
@Ohio, I too have serious concerns about Eddie’s choice of language. It’s ironic, I’ve followed him on Twitter for a few weeks and about two or three nights ago I was furrowing my brow at some of his tweets. He just doesn’t seem very kind. That’s why I wrote my little note to him (above) about trying to be a little more kind-hearted. I wrote that before I saw the tweets about him calling that woman a whore. Having seen that, there is definitely some response required. I imagine it will be handled internally and we won’t see much about it. Whatever the case, I’m disappointed someone at the Blaze would be so disrespectful, no matter the reason.
That being said, just because Sarah and Glenn are friends and have had events together, does not mean that The Blaze should be hands off her. If I wanted a propaganda site there are plenty around for both sides. I utterly disagree with Eddie’s take here, but The Blaze must be free to write about anyone, good or bad.

Feb. 6, 2012 at 5:18pmWhat the heck is wrong with you??!!? Sarah Palin isn’t running for anything right now. All she is doing is sharing her experience as a working mother and a parent who can relate to what Senator Santorum or any other busy parent with a special needs child goes through. She relays the story of her son, Trigg, because it will soon be his fourth birthday and she is trying to illustrate the special blessing that these children give to the families that love them. There are so many things that families of all special needs children go through that most folks will never know. I believe that all Governor Palin was trying to do was illustrate that point, so that people that do not have one of these special children in their lives get a glimpse of that world and understand, maybe a little better, what the Palins, Santorums, and others already know.

One would think, that at a time when 80% of Down Syndrome children are killed in the womb, The Blaze could somehow find a way to highlight the postive message that Sarah Palin is trying to share about the worth of her child (and others like him).
The fact that you chose to “spin” this in such a negative light, makes me wonder what your Agenda is…because it certainly isn’t “Truth.” So much for Restoring Honor…this is all about smearing. What a disappointment to read this kind of Huffington Post kind of crap on The Blaze

I reiterate: all the people here bashing Glenn and his ventures are either liars who never really liked or listened to him, OR they took what someone else said about him as gospel and knee-jerk reacted without getting Glenn’s real perspective.
