Like anyone else (whether you admit it or not), I’ve been curious how Mitt Romney would answer to some of the oddities about Mormonism. At a campaign stop in Wisconsin today a guy asked about interracial marriage and Romney showed how he’ll handle this type of question.
“Do you believe it’s a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black?”
Romney answered with a curt: “No, next question.”
Good for him. Don’t feed the crazies.

Apr. 15, 2012 at 1:22amThe question that was put to Romney was rather interesting, IMHO. They asked him whether a white guy could marry and procreate with a black woman, or if it was a sin. I want to know his answer to whether a black man can do the same with a white woman.
There’s a very subtle difference within the tribal mentality.
It’s seen as a matter of “We’re taking their women” vs. “They’re taking our women”.
Romney’s answer was a NON-answer. I would expect him to permit white men taking on black wives. If he’s truly not a racist Tribalist, I would need to know whether he supports members of the opposite race ‘taking’ the females of his race.
Does Romney support black men marrying white woman? That is the key question. This questioner probably asked this question in order to make it appear that Romney is more race-tolerant than he really is. It may well be downright deceptive.

Apr. 14, 2012 at 9:21pmEither Romney’s ignorant of the teachings of his own “prophets”, or he’s an out-and-out liar! I tend to believe the latter. Joseph Smith, the founder, and greatest ‘prophet’ of Mormonism, taught that the black race are the cursed children of Cain. How about a little honest, Mitt?? But, then again, he’s simply following a tradition of lying ‘church’ leaders!!

Apr. 13, 2012 at 9:36pmI am highly amused by some of the comments on here. One of the GREATEST reasons to vote for Mitt Romney is that he’s not afraid or ashamed to admit that after trying something and seeing that it didn’t work and won’t work, he has changed his mind and is willing to try something new. He’s not afraid to accept suggestions from other people. Unlike our current administration, and particularly the CIC. As for racism, the most racist people in America are in the democratic party. Be that as it may, they will do all they can to change the subject to ANYTHING but the economy — even if it means picking on someone’s religious beliefs. Religion is NOT supposed to be a litmus test for the presidency, but I am seeing that there are folks out there who are determined to make it that way. Latter Day Saints are very much Christians. They are the most educated in the scriptures. I have seen ministers try to attack their beliefs only to have a Latter Day Saint show them in THE MINISTERS OWN Bible where they get their information and why the idea of a young boy having a conversation with God and Jesus Christ is not as far-fetched as some would like it to be. They didn’t believe Jesus was the Christ because they expected a military leader. God doesn’t work that way. I think it’s safe to say that God has the right to choose whom HE would have serve. Instead of judging, find out for yourself. READ the Bible AND the Book of Mormon and read the footnotes. You’ll be amazed.

Apr. 13, 2012 at 12:56amIts not my faith but everyone has a right to believe as he chooses. It really has nothing to do with how wonderful a president he will be. And he will be great. After all Beck is a Mormon and he has taught me more about what is happening in he world than anyone. So lets get off the Mormon kick and focus on Romney as the president.

How about you focusing on your own faith? You certainly dont know mine. Do we think people of a different race are inferior? No. Next question.

Apr. 12, 2012 at 12:39pmUnfortunately, I think that the Mormonism questions are going to continue to be a problem. I like Mitt Romney and think, “how can you look at this guy and what he has accomplished and his stellar family and not be blown away?’ But I hear so many conservative evangelicals, the same ones that caught fire with Sarah Palin, say, “I just don’t know if I can vote for a Mormon.” It is ridiculous.

Apr. 13, 2012 at 6:28pmPerhaps all these folks who won’t vote for a Mormon would be happy voting for Islam. That is where we are heading if we don’t replace our present president. Would they also object to Sharia Law? But if they vote in a muslim then they will have Sharia Law. People are foos about their own religion when they knock everyone else’s. God must be chuckling over the nasty innuendos thrown out by folks who claim their religion is better than someone else’s. I guess the Good News is that people are talking about God a lot now, and that is Good News. You are voting out a president who could easily turn muslim if the winds turn that way, those are his words. Is that what Americans want, a muslim population telling us this is now a muslim world , and no longer America?

Apr. 8, 2012 at 5:34pmJust say it like it is… Do your research!
Mormons have a totally different outlook on what they believe than Christians! Baptizing the dead, they believe the Devil is Jesus brother, they believe in wearing magical underwear, they believe they will get their own planet, they believe in spirit children of their own, they believe that they can be just like God by doing good deeds and that their sins are no longer because of these deeds. So many things I would look up if I were you!
He will have to answer to God on this one! I will not support any cult, not even by my vote! I guess I will not be voting for anyone regardless! None are right for this position!

Apr. 8, 2012 at 5:41pmBTW: I remember Jesus saying “Let the dead bury their own dead”! Jesus did not baptize anyone while dead to begin with! He even made Lazerous live again after four days! Jesus was the son of God! Jesus did not talk about the book of Mormon, nor did he talk about Joseph Smith!
Remember the snake that said in Genesis “If you eat of the fruit off the tree of knowledge, good and evil you will be like God? Mormons believe they can become like God. Interesting!

Apr. 12, 2012 at 1:25pmYawn… All the same half-truths and hysteria typical of someone who’s learned about Mormons from anti-Mormons.
Couple of things – baptizing the dead isn’t un-Biblical – 1 Corinthians 15:29 talks about it happening in Jesus’ day, but most Christians disregard it because they don’t know what it means.
There’s nothing “Magical” about Mormon garments – they’re symbols of promises Mormons have made to God, much like a Christian cross, a Sikh turban, or a Jewish yammicka. Saying Mormons think they’re “Magical” is just silly.
And may I ask – how is your version of Heaven (where you lose your identity and become an angel floating around sing praises to God for all eternity) any less mystical than this crazy idea that Mormons might become a God and continue to have children someday? It’s all religious speculation at this point – nobody’s been there who can say 100% for certain what’s going to happen – so why does it bother you so much?
If Mormons were attacking others’ faiths like you attack theirs, maybe I could understand the anger about their beliefs… but they’re not, so your attacks aren’t merely unprovoked, they’re bigotted.

Apr. 13, 2012 at 6:32pmHow come you are so smart you know what God intended for all of us. How do you know that God isn’t pleased with so many billions of people all worshiping Him.? God is the answer to all the people and whatever religion they follow as long as they are killing us, should be Holy in God’s eyes and certainly have His Blessings. So why is your religion more important than mine. Who told you that is so? Not God. He is the First, and the Last Word. We are mere servants to Our Lord God.

Apr. 6, 2012 at 3:17pmGreat answer to the religious bigot. Many in the country, and on here unfortunately, will claim they know all about Mormons and race because their preacher told them or they are angry ex-LDS. Don’t believe them as that is not our doctrine. They are just contemptuous. In fact, Gordon B. Hinckley, the last President of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stated, “no man who makes disparaging remarks concerning those of another race can consider himself a true disciple of Christ. Nor can he consider himself to be in harmony with the teachings of the Church of Christ.”
And by the way, one of the places we are growing fastest as a Church is in Africa. Racist Church? I think not!

Status of the *****
Section Five 1842-43, p.269
At five went to Mr. Sollars’ with Elders Hyde and Richards. Elder Hyde inquired the situation of the *****. I replied, they came into the world slaves, mentally and physically. Change their situation with the whites, and they would be like them. They have souls, and are subjects of salvation. Go into Cincinnati or any city, and find an educated *****, who rides in his carriage, and you will see a man who has risen by the powers of his own mind to his exalted state of respectability. The slaves in Washington are more refined than many in high places, and the black boys will take the shine off many of those they brush and wait on.
Section Five 1842-43, p.269
Elder Hyde remarked, “Put them on the level, and they will rise above me.” I replied, if I raised you to be my equal, and then attempted to oppress you, would you not be indignant and try to rise above me, as did Oliver Cowdery, Peter Whitmer, and many others, who said I was a fallen Prophet, and they were capable of leading the people, although I never attempted to oppress them, but had always been lifting them up? Had I anything to do with the *****, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization.

Apr. 3, 2012 at 1:39amI like the fact that Romney is a Mormon. That’s one of the few good things about him.
Some not so good things about him? How about Socialist takeover of the private sector in the form of RomneyCare, taxpayer funded abortions, donations to Planned Parenthood from ANN ROMNEY, support for Cap and Trade legislation, support for the bailouts, kicking the boy scouts out of the Olympics to appease gay rights groups, declarations that “coal factories kill people”, support for gun control laws, support for Timothy Geithner, claims that what he did in Massachusetts was an example of “Severe Conservatism”, calls for RomneyCare to be enacted on a Federal Level http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/romney-supported-federal-individual-mandate-in-200 .The list goes on and on. Mitt Romney is demonstrably the MOST LIBERAL POLITICIAN IN THE ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY. If he gets the nomination it will be the end of the alliance between the Republican Party and the Tea Party.

So what’s your point? There have been a lot of erroneous ideas or beliefs about race by many religions. Mitt Romney is not a racist. The members of the LDS church that I know are not racist.
Stick to the point. Mitt answered the question extremely well.
By the way, I’m not a Mitt supporter, but he will be a lot better than the racist we have in the White House now. (i.e. Obama calls his grandmother a “typical white person.”)

“So what’s your point?”
The point I addressed was that the guy asking the question was not, in fact, crazy to do so.
“By the way, I’m not a Mitt supporter, but he will be a lot better than the racist we have in the White House now. (i.e. Obama calls his grandmother a “typical white person.”)”
Romney would only be marginally better. He is a Keynesian, which means he believes that government can help the economy. But, like Obama, he doesn’t understand that government is the cause of economic crashes, either as a result of moral hazard created by government-granted priveleges, or of artificial credit expansion.
So he can’t see the economic time bomb that’s coming due to the Keynesian policies he shares with Obama.
