You’ve seen a lot about the controversy stirred up by Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen who suggested stay-at-home mom Ann Romney lacks necessary insight on economic issues important to women. But what presumably qualifies Rosen to know any more than Romney?
At the Daily Beast, Kirsten Powers weighs in:
Rosen explained in a Huffington Post piece that her point was that Ann Romney should not be a person who Mitt Romney looks to for advice about the economic conditions of women, because, “she’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing, in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school, and why do we worry about their future.”
Of course, if this is the standard, then most women who work in politics—including Rosen—should not be able to offer advice on the economic plight of the average American woman, since with few exceptions they are hypereducated upper-income yuppies. Really, according to this line of reasoning, Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards should never have been able to talk about women’s issues as the spouse of candidate since they never had to worry about how to feed their kids.
In the same piece, Rosen said she had “no judgments about women who work outside the home vs. women who work in the home raising a family.” Au contraire. When one says dismissively that Ann Romney has “never worked a day in her life,” that does not suggest an abiding respect for her contribution to her family and society.
Let’s be clear: Raising children full time is work. Being the spouse who runs the household full time is work. And it’s work that society often doesn’t value or treat with respect. …
Rosen undoubtedly did not intend to devalue women with her comments. It’s a sad fact of our society that contempt for women and their incredible, unpaid, and unheralded contributions to society has been unconsciously absorbed even by liberal women who support women’s rights.

Apr. 15, 2012 at 6:39amHilary Rosen does not represent the Average American woman. She herself is a lesbian with a partner and 2 adobted children. Of course she would lash out at a successful mother of 5 boys. It is called jealousy. What mother would not love the opportunity to spend the most of her day with her children. Hilary must be the financial support role in her family. Ann was lucky she did not have to play that role. She got to play the role she chose to play. It is the natural mother role.

Apr. 16, 2012 at 12:21pmWhat qualifies her, is that she is an Obama campaign tool. A useful idiot who’s job is to derail attention from Prime Minister Obama’s dismal record. I bet if this hypocrit was talking about a democrat she would be saying how great it is that she can stay at home with her children.

Apr. 16, 2012 at 12:29pmRight on .. that was first reaction aside from “oh S#%t! did she really say that… then later I said “what the hell .. she is gay so how does she represent every woman…” this so typical of the Democratic narrative and that is Dems are inclusive, respect women and minorities, care passionately about their problems… Republicans only care about rich people..it is such a juvenile response .. rather pathetic.

Apr. 14, 2012 at 8:47pmThis Is the only article I read that asks if Rosen qualified to speak for, & represent, struggling, working mothers. Nobody seems to catch the irony of Rosen denigrating Ann Romney for being “out of touch” with the majority of American women. Has Rosen EVER had the experience of being a struggling, working mom, on a limited budget? I bet she’s also had lots of money herself to hire nannies & housekeepers to care for her children while she’s been working. That should qualify her for being as “out of touch” as she claims Ann is. Ann Romney is college-educated & is as capable as Rosen of learning about the worries & concerns of the average working mother in America. Again, what is Hilary Rosen’s status as regards to her personal experience with working & rearing children on a limited budget? Maybe she’s decided to hide at home because she wants to avoid these difficult questions, knowing she is no different than Ann. Money is money. It spends the same whether you are born into it or earn it.

Apr. 14, 2012 at 1:07pmAs a lesbian, before she speaks, she needs to declare herself as the female in the “partnership”. Until she does she needs to put a cork in it!

Apr. 13, 2012 at 4:29pmI would love to put Hilary Rosen in my shoes. Frankly, as a “Democrat Strategist” she has never worked a day in her life either, so I wouldn’t go throwing stones.
Lets see how well she fairs with a part-time job that ends on 6 May with no guarantee of picking up summer classes to teach, making $580 dollars every two weeks, which somehow has to be stretched to equate $1600 it takes to pay all the bills. I am living on some pay and savings Hilary. Get a clue.

Apr. 13, 2012 at 2:02pmThe headline and article bring to mind a simple –yet controversial question.
>What is a woman?
If lifestyle,
due to money and job,
defines and determines
which woman may speak on behalf of women,
– to be fair,
all life styles should be considered.
Hillary Rosen more than implied
that only women
who make certain choices
or
women who have no choice
know, and are permitted
to talk about
what women want.
If Hillary Rosen is of the belief that she has no choice about her lifestyle,
>that is her choice.
What is a woman anymore?

Apr. 13, 2012 at 12:02pmAnn Romney is hardly what I would call a “stay at home mom”…. Please….! I would bet the ranch that she has never changed a diaper or cooked a meal…. She most certainly does not manage the household budget (because there is none)….. Her domestic responsibilities are choosing private schools for her kids, planing cocktail/dinner parties for her husband and consulting with interior decorators and stylists…. Please, do you really think she cooks and cleans or has ever sat at the constitutional “kitchen table”…? Spare me….!

Apr. 13, 2012 at 4:42pmCan you proof your assumptions?
Mormon’s do not necessarily hire help in raising their kids like Democrat Elitist who must have nanny’s so they are not subject to the mundane chores of everyday life. I am not saying it is impossible, I am just saying it is unlikely.
P.S. I am looking for proof of my assumptions, can you say the same?

Apr. 15, 2012 at 11:43amBoth Ann and Mitt are pampered Yuppies… Don’t get me wrong, so am I…. I’m not casting stones…. However, to make these feeble attempts, in order to cloak them in patriotic and sanctimonious, (I can’t say Christian) apple pie, American virtue, is ridiculous and worthy of mockery…. I understand the hatred in your heart…. It’s the “I hate what I fear and I fear what I don’t understand..” type of hatred…. Typical….

Apr. 16, 2012 at 12:42pmSeriously? You need to do a little research into her background and her faith. It is the typical childish narrative of the left to make this kind argument.
So what makes you think that Hillary in her gay lifestyle has done any of that either?.. from what I gather Hillary and her partner adopted twins both had a career.. I would bet the ranch they spent less time with the twins than Anne did with her five children.. I see that she seemed to have waited until the diaper stage was over before she decided to change careers (to spend more time with the family). I think this is just so much crap. You don’t have to like Romney but his wife seems to be a smart devoted wife and mother and hardly some self absorbed country club type.. I realize that these days being straight, white, Christian and affulent is a huge negative.. you need to grow up

Apr. 16, 2012 at 12:54pmFrom your last response sounds like you are projecting a little.. Do you know the Romney’s personally? I only know what I have read.. they don’t appear pampered in the traditional sense .. and they are little old to be considered part of the generation that were Yuppies.. But really this is about hate.. and the left hates and is completely intolerant of White straight, Christian, Republicans, Consrvatives(of all colors and gender)… you all feel the overwhelming urge to attack, criticize, denigrate and belittle.. it is clearly the left projecting their fears onto a group/s of people.. in short you are doing exactly what you claim others are doing..

Apr. 13, 2012 at 12:00pmWhat qualifies Rosen, in the eyes of the lefitst and progressives? Simple – she is an ideological extremist, and a radical who sees anything not fitting into her limited, narrow, hide bound world as the enemy and thus needs to be destroyed and denigrated at all costs.
They are so caught up and consumed by the darkness of their own lies they refuse to see truth.
