Is this cartoon racist, funny, or what?

Sooooooo, I posted/shared the attached political cartoon by A.F. Branco on my Facebook page this weekend.

Obama cartoon sparks debate about racism in political cartoons

Almost immediately I was swamped with complaints, outrage, and insults from some of my Left-leaning “friends.”

Seriously. I was called:

Racist
Unfunny
A propagandist
Someone who promotes violence against animals

In addition to the unfounded insults posted in my comments section, I also received emails asking and demanding that I remove the cartoon. I have not.

I don’t see it as racist or even mean. What do you think? Take our poll.

Is this cartoon racist?

Ps. - I do admit to being unfunny on occasion. (Ask my wife, please.) But, the other charges could hardly hold up in any court. In fact, as my in-box was overflowing with hate mail, we were fostering this dog just rescued from a “kill shelter.”

VERY funny, but neither Obama’s or Romney’s dog story should have any influence on their candidacy

  If it was a Bush cartoon it would be fine……. You know, just like Bill Maher is a comedian when it comes to viscously attacking Sara Palin…..but since it’s humor directed at Obama , IT’S RACIST !!!

  As one of the resident liberals, this isn’t racist at all. In fact, calling this racist in itself is pretty shady. It’s funny and in poor taste. I like poor taste comedy.

  “wok the dog” instead of “walk the dog” as a play on words is as old as the hills and twice as corroded. So the speech bubble in the cartoon can be ignored pretty much. I guess it relates in somewhat as it is a couple of blacks that are cooking up a DOG to eat. But the real thing in that cartoon I think is her ugly looking face, and his ears. I used to think if his head ever came off, those ears would start beating and the thing would lift off and fly away like a vampire bat or something…

  funny cartoon. not racist, nor is the dog issue even relevant when viewed in context. while in america we normally do not eat dog meat, many other countries do. the fact that in happened so many years ago in one of those countries seems to be lost on those that are trying to make this into an issue.
  as a libertarian i do not like to see my political beliefs taken out of context, as they often are in order to be spun. i also do not tolerate it when thoses supposedly on my side spin things like this out of context. no wonder nobody trusts anyone

  The issue is not that Obama ate a dog. The issue is that he was raised in a country that routinely ate dogs. How can a person raised at a young impressionable age in that FOREIGN country possibly relate with the average American. Think about it.

  I don’t think it is really all that funny to be honest but I don’t think it is racist or promoting animal cruelty either.Seriously, people need to lighten up on the whole race and animal cruelty bull. It is a cartoon…. lol. It is people that criticize things like this that cause racist outlooks and violence around the world. Just saying.

  I find it a clever way to get the Obama team to finally shut up about the story of the trip with the dog crate 29 YEARS ago. I think it was much better handled with humor than the nastiness the left usually throws at people. That is why the left is getting ugly about it, they do not know how to laugh at themselves at all, and they do not know how to deal with it when most of the country is also laughing at them. Yes, now some of them are willing to back off on the Romney dog “cruelty” harping, but until they all do, there are a whole bunch more cartoons and photo shopped pictures out there which seem to keep coming up. Humor and ridicule in a gentle form go over much better with most Americans than the hateful talk we get from the left. I have seen some, shared and reposted others, including the one above, and I and most of my friends find them hilarious. Axelrod might think twice before slinging mud at Romney, he or his staff do seem have to a very wicked, hilarious sense of humor.

  Well, I should think that it should be influenced to this extent: why would Democrats try to make so much of Romney’s attempt to take a dog on vacation turning out badly, and ignore their own side making nice with the Muslim Brotherhood. Now if THEY were to succeed in supplanting Western civilization, the result would be the destruction of all pet dogs (and judging from the recent issue of Minneapolis cabbies refusing to pick up fares with service dogs, not even they would be exempted from Islam’s view of canines as unclean). Just another classic example showing the left holds no real principles, just pretexts to flog their opponents with.

  This is humorous as stated and I agree and I do not feel that the cartoonist was in any way using this for that purpose!
  I have one for him if he would accept it as a project? It would be on the other doggie issue and I for one had no problem with Romney’s transport and he explained it well that the dog liked that mode of transport and wanted to travel with! Also they love the wind and would be fine as long as he isn’t facing directly in the wind and the temperatures were not too radical! Check out hunting do and Law Enforcement truck cage transports and they are fine as well!

If you don’t like it; accuse the opponent with racism, violence and well anything else you can think of to demonize them regardless of truth!!!!   You know it is a dog eat dog world out there, and if a 29 year old story is still valid, then why not an older story. At jl stop the constant reminders of how Romney transported the dog 29 years ago. I saw where someone asked Romney recently if he would do the same again, and he replied, with a twinkle in his eye, not now that I’ve seen the reaction it got. Gosh, it might actually be nice to have a person in the White House who can not only take a joke but make them on himself. Obama is so thin skinned, he grates on you after a short period of any criticism being thrown back as racism. Much rather see a war of real humor than nasty attacks. The poor dems only consider humor to be the use of vile language addressed at conservatives, in particular women. They do not seem to even recognize actual humor.

  I wonder how obama took the most recent humor, bye a comedian calling him an f-ing a–sh–le! I have not seen his response or his minion idiots but I am sure it will be really heart touching an profound coming from a dog eater and a foolish idiot. Every time he opens his mouth you realize what a Tyrant type that he is! I liked the Cartoon, It depicts his ignorance and his/her inability to cope with something that he himself started! Roomneys transportation of his dog is not in anyway cruel. the dog had plenty of ventalation ( As much by far as these dog carriers cages that hunters use) and a place to have water and I bet odds that the dog loved it. Dogs like the wind blowing on them and would be more comfortable getting the open air!

Funny yes, as far as racist no. However earlier on the show Stu was saying odrama wasnt asian. I have to respectfully disagree. odrama himself has stated Hawaii was indeed part of Asia and he was born in Hawaii so therefore he must be asian.

It’s as if they held a strategy session on Madison Avenue:

“What images sell the most products?”

–”That would be women, children and puppies.”

“And the most powerful base motivations?”

–”Hate, fear, envy, resentment, entitlement mentality…”

“Brilliant! We’ll say the right hates women and minorities, they want to take away your stuff, your choice and your health, and their policies will destroy the planet for your kids, just to line their own fat pockets…oh…and their candidate is CRUEL TO DOGS! Well, we’ll show THEM — we’ll just take THEIR stuff and give it to those who deserve it! That means YOU, if you vote for US.”

Then, when they get called on the nonsense and hypocrisy after raking tons of irrelevant muck, they pick apart any rational response, branding it as bigoted, sexist, ignorant or hateful. They then call a truce if they’re smart — until things calm down after a while and they can start in again on some other similar non-issues.
