Obama WH demands military chaplains perform same-sex marriages
According to a policy statement released by the administration yesterday, President Barack Obama “strongly objects” to provisions in a House defense authorization bill that would prohibit the use of U.S. military property in same-sex marriages and protect military chaplains who refuse to perform gay marriage ceremonies against their religious beliefs.
Arguing that the measure’s “overbroad terms,” the Obama administration claims such a measure “is potentially harmful to good order and discipline.”
CNS News has the details:
Overall, [the WH policy statement] recommends that President Obama veto H.R. 4310 if its cumulative effects “impede the ability of the Administration to execute the new defense strategy and to properly direct scarce resources.”
The veto warning is not specifically linked to the two provisions dealing with marriage, but they are listed among parts of the bill which the administration finds objectionable.
The memo said the two provisions “adopt unnecessary and ill-advised policies that would inhibit the ability of same-sex couples to marry or enter a recognized relationship under State law.”
Section 536 of H.R. 4310 states in part that no member of the armed forces may “direct, order, or require a chaplain to perform any duty, rite, ritual, ceremony, service, or function that is contrary to the conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs of the chaplain, or contrary to the moral principles and religious beliefs of the endorsing faith group of the chaplain.”
Further, no member of the armed forces may “discriminate or take any adverse personnel action against a chaplain, including denial of promotion, schooling, training, or assignment, on the basis of the refusal by the chaplain to comply with a direction, order, or requirement” that is prohibited by the previous clause.

Posted on May 18, 2012 at 12:20amThis in no way serves good order and discipline — in fact, it severely undermines it — and is as asinine as ordering a Catholic chaplain to perform a Church of Satan Black Mass, or a Hindi chaplain to serve Christian communion. Different religions offer different rites, and each should perform only those rites appropriate to their beliefs. There are several religions that have no objection to gays. Therefore, the gays should go to those chaplains.

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 9:18pmMatters of consciousness are very important to the military. It has to be because you may have to kill someone. This is an invasion of what the chaplain’s corp is all about. To be forced to do anything that is against your conscious is the gravest of violations.

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 4:26pmMilitary Chaplains, read my words and repeat:
“Mr. President, with due respect, sir, as a Christian Chaplain, I am a citizen of Heaven and servant of God’s army before I am a servant of you or the United States army. Respectfully sir, your interpretation of God’s Law does not match mine and for you to force me to bow to your reading of it is against the levity in religious freedom that has been the hallmark of the Chaplain’s Corps ever since our inception in the American military in 1775. As I am eternally beholden to God for my actions done in His name before I am momentarily beholden to you for actions done in the name of the US military, I will not comply.”

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 3:50pmSection 536 of H.B. 4310 MUST remain in the Bill ! Then even Obama, who, as the so-called Commander-in-Chief, can not order Chaplains to perform an unbiblical marriage. If Obama REALLY believes in same-sex-marriage, he should divorce Michelle and marry Larry Sinclair. That would complete the Obamanation / abomination of our White House !

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 9:39pm@TUDDLEY3 – Legalizing Pedophilia, Zoophelia and all of the other “phelia’s” is the natural progression. Once the law says that it is illegal to “discriminate” against anyone due to their “sexual preference” the door is wide open to any and all disordered behaviors. Under the law if it is illegal to discriminate against someone for wanting to have sex with and marry someone of the same sex how is it not illegal to discriminate against someone who wants to marry their dog or their cat or have sex with their pet or what about 2 men and one woman or 3 women and one cat? It’s all discrimination, once you redefine marriage based on non-discrimination the cat so to speak is out of the bag. We really need to pray, God’s patience is going to run out and we are going to reap what we sow.

This disgusting and useless hypocrite has violated the commandments of every religion I’m aware of and seems to be digging a deeper and deeper hole to drag (or push) his children into. I could care less about his US hating wife. I’d push her in myself if I could. I keep hoping the Idiot in Chief will continue his one man wrecking crew assault on his second term!! The man is the most pathetic anti American any of us will ever know. He has done more to destroy this country than any politician to ever walk the halls of Congress. He should be arrested for treason and sent back to Kenya where he came from.

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 2:33pmCivil rights in America have always been based on natural rights. Gay marriage is UNNATURAL. How unnatural? Well, about as unnatural as two guys that want to get married, and then in an attempt to fill in the void want to adopt, because they cannot procreate, because it was not meant to be, because it is WRONG. Quit trying to REDEFINE marriage for the rest of us!
Our Founding Fathers obviously didn’t have to deal with this issue because at that time homose.xuality was properly in the dark as an abomination along with abortion. Thankfully, they allowed for the constitution to be amended. Let’s get a constitutional amendment in place defining marriage as between a man and a woman (duh), and put this issue to rest once and for all!

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 2:54pmI would not do it. They do not have to go against what they believe in. If they have to get discharged, they should receive honorable. Then they should sue the ones who caused their being forced to quit so they would not have to go against their beliefs. These people are acting in an illegal capacity demanding Armed services approval over such an abomination. This should never be in the Armed Services, as it will demoralize the troops and cause more problems and expense within than a war with another country. The Obamites know this. This is why it is being done so the troops and services will further wound this country.

Posted on May 17, 2012 at 11:54pm“Gay marriage is UNNATURAL.”
Tell that to the dozens of life-mating species throughout nature in which homosexuality occurs in approximately the same ratio as it does among humans. The function of homosexual pairings in those species is to adopt orphans.
