Which is more ‘obnoxious’: horse riding or gardening?

The Atlantic examines the “obnoxious” hobbies of Michelle Obama (gardening) and Ann Romney (horse riding).

I’d say both are equally annoying in terms of actual productivity and the outfits you have to wear while doing them, but Ann took up horse riding to cope with her multiple sclerosis so she gets a pass.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Neither is obnoxious unless you are using it to proselytize. Then it’s not the hobby which is obnoxious, but the person doing it.

Plus, with all of the regulations now surrounding private food production, there is an obvious hypocrisy to the WH producing food. Have the food police checked the WH soil for dangerous bacteria?

The most obnoxious hobby is bashing other people’s hobbies. I want the idiot who wrote the article in the Atlantic to go garden and then try horse back riding. Neither one is cheap, and neither one is easy. Now, I’m not entirely sure Mrs. Obama actually gardens (or is actually at least good at it); I’ve never seen her demonstrate the knowledge necessary to be a successful gardener. But, if she does actually know how to garden and is good at it, then good for her. Horse back riding is expensive because horse people are truly horse people – they will do anything for their horses. “Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it”. And yes, dressage is hella expensive; so are the horses themselves.

I’m not speaking with no experience; I’ve grown up gardening (I’ve planted and taken care of literally hundreds of trees, not to mention flowers and other plants) and I’ve grown up around horses. Honestly, I know more about gardening than about horseback riding (despite the fact that I’ve had horses my entire life); but I do know horseback riding is definitely more complex and harder than gardening is. I have respect for anyone who can ride well. I can ride fairly well, but I’m nothing special. Intermediate would fit my riding skill. I’m very good at gardening. I know both “hobbies” (gardening is a hobby; horses are a lifestyle) well and neither one is even remotely “obnoxious”. I have respect for anyone who can do either one well.

What the hell is this? Gardening and horse back riding are obnoxious? Find a new line of work. This one doesn’t suit you.

The only hobby Mrs. Obama has is travel, travel, travel and when she’s not on the go Obama is checking places out for her.

The most obnoxious is the one who insists that everyone else must change and be just like her.

Actually, Michelle’s hobby appears to be strong-arming fast food corporations and travel–lots and lots of travel.

NEITHER is obnoxious. Gardening is great therapy plus, if you succeed, you get fresh fruits, vegetables and / or flowers. Horseback riding is just good for body and soul. NOW: I’ll bet that Michelle’s garden is tended by “others” – AND – Ann does not do ALL the work to care for the horses. Both activities are more satisfying if one participates FULLY.
