How are citizens affected by the past week’s storms coping with steamy temperatures and widespread power outages? Well, apparently some are having no problem entertaining themselves:
Derek Longo, 11, plays a video game, powered by a running car engine hooked up to a power inverter, outside his home at Bruce Apartments in Ashland, Ky., on Monday, July 2, 2012, where the electricity was still out due to Friday’s storm damage. Sleeping on ground next to him is Joseph DeLong, and under the blanket is Aaron Salyers. (AP Photo /The Daily Independent, Kevin Goldy)
It’s really amazing, isn’t it? Some parents can’t even get their kids to play outside when their video games are seemingly rendered inoperable.
On a lighter note, natural disasters have an odd way of bringing out some peoples’ senses of humor:
A tree sitting atop a vehicle offers free firewood in Falls Church, Va., Monday, July, 2, 2012, as cleanup continued after Friday’s storm, Around 2 million utility customers are without electricity across a swath of states along the East Coast and as far west as Illinois as the area recovers from a round of summer storms that has also caused at least 17 deaths. Jul. 3, 2012 at 5:14pmI hope it rains on his X-box. Wouldn’t his parents need his help more than usual because electricity was out for them?

Jul. 3, 2012 at 4:46pmOf course I see a natural solution to this problem: Give the kids axes and turn them loose!

Jul. 3, 2012 at 4:12pmKids only do what parents allow them to do. It is clear from the picture the kid spends way too much time on a computer.
