Where did Bush 43 celebrate the 4th of July?

“To whom much is given, much is required.”

This is the sentiment behind former President George W. Bush’s ongoing charity work and ongoing trip with his wife, Laura, to Africa.  Where else would a former President celebrate America’s birthday?

I’ve highlighted the former president’s commendable work with our wounded warriors in the past, but his most recent work takes a different direction — to Africa.  During a trip that included a stop in Botswana, Bush set out to raise awareness about cervical cancer and help construct medical centers so local women can get the preventative screenings they need:

During his remarks at the University Teaching Hospital, President Bush noted that “on our country’s birthday, it is important to remember the blessings of freedom and the blessings of being an American and to give back”.

Because of Americans generosity, PEPFAR [The President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief] has saved more than a half a million lives in Zambia from HIV/AIDs, and more than 4 million on the continent of Africa.

In 2005, coffin making was the most lucrative business in Zambia because so many people were dying of AIDs. Today, people have access to life saving medicines and are able to live productive lives. But, the most tragic thing is to save women from HIV/AIDs and watch them die of cervical cancer.

So, today in Lusaka, President and Mrs. Bush opened the first Center for Excellence at the University Teaching Hospital.

There are some amazing pictures of the Bush family’s trip, including these moving images:

Obama can “blame Bush” for everything he wants to, but he will never be the man that Mr. Bush is and will continue to be…trash vs class.

Ditto what you folks said. He may have run up tabs and increased the size of government, but I would love to have the Bushes for neighbors but not the Obamas. The Obamas would trash your yard and claim it was the previous tenant. The Bushes would take you to the emergency room, feed your dog, take in your mail. He looks great, God bless him.

You can see genuine care in his eyes and on his face. Never have seen that in Obama, not even when he has talked about his family.

Say what you will about President Bush, but in the past three and a half years of countless photo ops, have you seen any candid depiction of the current president that compares with the sincerity and good will that is plainly apparent in these few photos?
