Movie director offended by Republicans calling Obama ‘Socialist’

Milos Forman, known as the director of the American classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and nothing else, writes in the New York Times today:

I hear the word “socialist” being tossed around by the likes of Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others. President Obama, they warn, is a socialist. The critics cry, “Obamacare is socialism!” They falsely equate Western European-style socialism, and its government provision of social insurance and health care, with Marxist-Leninist totalitarianism. It offends me, and cheapens the experience of millions who lived, and continue to live, under brutal forms of socialism.

Kind of stupid. Pretty sure one of those mentioned above are implying anything other than “Western European-style socialism” when they use the word “Socialism.” Though, admittedly, Rick Perry can be difficult to understand.

When I was at Columbia University in the early 1980s, I was National President of a college org then called “Social Democrats of America”. Before my time it had been named “YPSL”. It had a long history in NY and in the American left. YPSL stood for Young Peoples Socialists League and back in the day was very Red, . I had gotten involved with this group because I was very pro labor (still am) and very anti Soviet and was using this org to spread the message about the Solidarity uprising of the workers in Poland. Barry Obama never joined our group.. I figure he was too busy with his “Paki Mob” friends who were also exchange students to get involved in campus activities (I wish people would understand that Barry was a exchange student – who didnt need high grades or test scores to do a year at CU – just a big check from Grannie. He then wiggled his way in, he was NOT a transfer student.)

Milos Forman was a professor at Columbia at the time heading up the newly founded and very small film department. He was a wonder, a truly brilliant man and a freedom fighter of the top order. I was nervous to read his piece becasue I didnt want to hear that Milos was defending this Fraud in Chief who I hear was once my classmate, but he did not. I too hate when Obama is called a socialist, it is lazy and ridiculous. He is very much a social democrat, condemn him for that if you like, but maybe most people dont even understand what that means so trhey go for the easier descr

Socialism is far more diverse than just communism. Mr. Obama and his policies fall very comfortably in EU-style socialism. As I describe in my book Never Allow A Crisis To Go To Waste, Obama employed classical socialism in his nationalization of GM and Chrysler, which was a virtual replay of the British Labour government’s nationalization of British Leyland in 1975. More interestingly, Obama’s “clean energy economy” and Obamacare programs are faithful applications of German Zwangwirtshaft socialism, where the government allows nominal private ownership of an industry, but uses its police, taxing and spending powers to direct the industry to redistribute wealth.

If Foreman ever read any writings of Karl Marx or Engles he would be more enlightened to that of which he speaks. Marx’s directive to his communist ideological followers was to NEVER mention communism as the goal of their movement; they were to talk in terms of socialism because it presented the ideology as inclusive, shared, and socially just. It is the trap. The lie. The honey. The weak-minded and lazy, along with the naive, will continue to suck on the teat of central government until they become so fat, so incapable of thought and action, that this is when the mask of government comes off to reveal the face of the master who has you in an iron cage.

‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ setting was a State run (read: GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE) facility where patients were kept medicated, controlled and ultimately lobotomized by Nurse Rachet–the ultimate power and control government employee minion.

I guess Milos didn’t watch his own movie.
