Read nanny Mayor Bloomberg’s full demand for gun control
While President Obama and Mitt Romney are taking a break from outspoken politicking today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is stepping forward and demanding action, criticizing the candidates for not directly addressing what he considers to be a key issue in the tragedy: gun control.
Here’s what Bloomberg had to say this morning in an interview with radio host John Gambling , just hours after the shooting in Colorado:
Gambling: Nice to see you as always. That deal in Aurora, just another horrific unexplainable mass murder.
Mayor Bloomberg: You know, soothing words are nice, but maybe it’s time that the two people who want to be President of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country. And everybody always says, ‘Isn’t it tragic,’ and you know, we look for was the guy, as you said, maybe trying to recreate Batman. I mean, there are so many murders with guns every day, it’s just got to stop. And instead of the two people – President Obama and Governor Romney – talking in broad things about they want to make the world a better place, okay, tell us how. And this is a real problem. No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them concretely, not just in generalities – specifically what are they going to do about guns? I can tell you what we do here in New York. The State Legislature passed the toughest gun laws – some states may say no. That’s okay, what do you want to do? And maybe every Governor should stand up. But in the end, it is really the leadership at a national level, which is whoever is going to be President of the United States starting next January 1st – what are they going to do about guns?
Gambling: The reality is you know that will not happen.
Mayor Bloomberg: Well, it’ll happen, John, if it was one of your kids yesterday in Aurora, maybe you’d stand up and say I’m not going to take this anymore. Maybe you get your friends and everything. And it’s not a question of what you think is right here. Here’s the issue: You want to be President? Okay, I said the other day, forget about stuff- you want to fix the economy? Tell us how you’re going to fix the economy, and tell us in a practical sense because the President has to deal with Congress, the President has to do things consistent with what the courts will allow. But just going and talking in generalities unfortunately doesn’t give the public the information they need to make an informed decision.
Gambling: Don’t you think that’s true again because the public doesn’t really know what it wants to hear? Doesn’t really care enough about that? And that the candidate has to play to the base because it’s the only way he or she is going to get elected, and therefor if he doesn’t get elected he can’t do anything-
Mayor Bloomberg: Well, it’s like saying, you know, I can be dishonest because I won’t get elected and then I can’t be honest. I mean, come on. You know, but number one, there’s something more important than getting elected, and that’s standing up and saying what you think is right. I mean, I listen to this all the time, everything – oh, it’s getting reelected. Getting reelected or elected isn’t everything. How do you- you’ve got to look your family in the eye, you’ve got to look yourself in the mirror and say this is what I really believe and this is what I’ll do if I get elected. And if it sells it sells, and if it doesn’t sell it doesn’t sell. And you know, you say people don’t know. Yeah, I think that’s fair. People don’t have a solution, or everybody has a different solution. But that’s why we elect governors and presidents and legislators to lead from the front, to come up with solutions, to tell us what those solutions they think are. Some will work, some won’t, some they’ll get through the Legislature, some they won’t be able to. But you still- if we just say, ‘Well, there’s nothing you can do about it.’ Think about where we’re going. This country is in very big trouble, and we need the two presidential candidates to tell us how they’re going to take us out of this. We used to be here in New York in the top ten in education in every standard. We’re lucky to be in the top 50. We used to have all the new jobs created here in this country. Everybody talks about jobs. Tell us specifically how you’re going to do it. New York City, we have our plans – some good, some bad, some people like them, some don’t – but we’re talking about the future of the country. Tax policy – you know, they talk about, ‘I’m going to reduce everybody’s taxes,’ or, ‘I’m going to reduce taxes for the group that I think will vote for me the most.’ That’s just not the way to do it. But guns – get back to Aurora – this is killing people every day, and it’s growing and it’s not just an inner-city, east coast, west coast, big city phenomenon. Aurora is not a big city.
Gambling: No.
Mayor Bloomberg: Suburb of Denver.
Gambling: Yeah.
Mayor Bloomberg: You know, the murder-
Gambling: 25 miles from Columbine, which I think is-
Mayor Bloomberg: The murder rate in the rural areas is just as bad if not worse than the murder rate in urban areas.
Gambling: Have you ever talked with anybody about the psychology of that? I know the gun issue, but the psychology of that. Have we become less sensitive to our neighbor?
Mayor Bloomberg: I don’t know about that. You know, I’m not a physiatrist or a psychologist. I can tell you I don’t think there’s any other developed country in the world that has remotely the problem we have. There’s no other place that allows- we have more guns than people in this country. Every place else, if there are murders they’re generally not done with guns – not generally, a lot more are not done with guns. And everybody’s got problems with crime, and you know, that’s the real world. God didn’t make everybody perfect. But this is just- you know, and we can talk about it on the talk shows, we can wring our hands and say it’s terrible. You know, ‘I need more guns to protect myself.’ And that strategy doesn’t work. That’s like saying incarcerate more people and you’ll reduce crime rate. In New York City, we’ve reduced the incarceration- the number of people incarcerated by over a third and crime keeps coming down. Because when you send somebody to jail – particularly a kid – all they do is learn how to be a worse criminal. So that’s just not a good solution. You may be able to say, ‘I’ll put her in jail and throw away the key.’ That sounds good, but it doesn’t solve the problem.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on July 21, 2012 at 9:06pmYou would think he was running for president or something. He never misses a chance to insert his opinion into the discussion whether it concerns him or his mini-state or not. I recall a mass murder in NYC where a nightclub was torched by a disgruntled customer with gasoline and 75-80 people died. Didn’t even use a gun. Some can think of all kinds of excuses that the public not be allowed to carry weapons. I think this case makes a very strong point that they be allowed to. As for me, I will depend on myself for my own defense, thank you very much.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:31pmIdiot. People are going to kill people no matter what you do. Did guns stop ancient armies from slaughtering one another? How about people stoning others to death? It’s going to happen. YOU CANNOT STOP IT. What these morons don’t understand is that guns make the playing field even. Weaker inviduals can protect themselves where they cannot otherwise. Everyone has personal protection that does not matter on size, strength, ability, etc. What happens if you make guns illegal and people start breaking into houses at night and start smuthering people to death? Next thing you know there is a smuthering epidemic. Are you going to illegalize pillows?

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:28pmAmen. Bloomberg wants America to be a part of Bilderberg’s New World Order where no one except he and his elite armies have guns, money, food, etc. Don’t fall for his rhetoric. Google Bilderberg and you will find he and Soros and most of Obama’s Czars are all a part of Bilderberg’s New World Order along with quite a few Republicans. This is a cancer we need to fight with all our might. When our guns are taken, we will be like China, Russia and the rest of the third world countries. Fight back.

All of you liberals better wake up and smell the coffee before we lose our nation. You will suffer as much as everyone else, should this happen. Now, is your chance to do your bit in trying to hang on to our country. It will take all of us to fight this scourge as they have infiltrated every crevice of our society, and mostly in our government. Do not believe their lies. These are spoiled, narcissistic children brought up under a progressive system that puts a premium on self-esteem and eschews responsibility. It celebrates self-indulgence and makes fun of hard work.
No wonder these kids are so F’d up. The blood of this horror is not on the hands of gun owners. It’s on the hands of liberal politicians, progressive social engineers and their mindless, godless minions. Period.

Until you get THAT gun population “under control” you can leave us honest, law-abiding U.S. gunowners alone so that we can defend ourselves, family and fellow law-abiding citizens. I recently joined the NRA because of pie-in-the-sky liberals who don’t have the manpower or guts to disarm the murderous criiminals.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 6:46pmGiven the fact that most of the illegal guns in NYC are brought legally in states like Virgina and other lax gun law states where the politicians care more about the NRA than their citizens, the mayor is correct. No Citizen Needs an Assault Rifle that can hold more than 100 rounds. It is time to take this issue back from the militia compound nutcases that spend their days looking for black UN helicopters and let sane people come up with gun control laws.

Do you honestly think gun violence and gang violence will go away if guns are outlawed? Answer me this question… MS13 likes to go around with machetes and kill their victims. What if four jumped a guy that could have been carrying a gun? Now he is dead when he could have protected himself. Just because you take guns away, doesn’t mean the violence goes with it. With the abolition of firearms, you have just made the playing field uneven and criminals have the upper hand. Congratulations.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 9:38pmEncinom….. Let me explain this. An AR-15 is not an assault rifle. To the general public it is an ordinary semi-automatic rifle that shoots LITTLE 5.56mm rounds. An assault rifle is typically fully automatic. Now in this great country, you may apply for a special permit to own a fully automatic rifle in some states. It is a very lengthy process that usually takes about 6 months. But still I guess if only the bad guys were the ones with guns we would be much better off.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 9:15pmIn reply to ENCINOM, no where near as many would have died from friendly fire as compared to the number who actually did or were wounded. It just doesn’t happen that way. Legal CCW carriers are actually quite cautious about using their weapons. Your profound paranoia about firearms and their legal use by the public is obvious. Why don’t you move to Britain where firearms are virtually forbidden, and the violent crime and murder rate went up after the laws went into effect? You’d be much happier there and we would be much happier with you there, too.

Honestly do you think the British occupied NY and didn’t confiscate anything that could be used as a defense? How can he not get that after the first responders who may or may not have guns are gone, you only have the citizens until such time as the military can muster. NY has no room to make commentary on the gun laws of the rest of the country as they have a ban in that city, due in no small part to the location of the UN headquarters there.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 3:11pmDefense, security, public safety, motor vehicle department, mail and currency at most are the essential role of government. Can you list what the state of government roll is, in today’s environment?
If your answer is one word- POLITICAL- defiantly understand the abstract meaning of the word, which is the unlimited pandering overtime, until fully seize control over what deemed the subject, that could be an individual, property, and happiness.
If government sees, that people are helping and caring for and of each other, that would be a threat to its body. The reason is justified, which is, government is no longer needed. Keep in mind, when we nominate an individual to speak on our behalf, it does not mean he/she can ran away with the empowerment granted. On the contrary, should be held responsible of the people trust in him granted.
Now imagine if everyone we elect to represent us- We the People-, on local, state and federal level and everyone is sworn to deliver what was sent out with the people voice and mission, and all of these representatives met and each felt the power, would collectively give them all the thoughts and right to view, that if we joined forces, we would have the ultimate power. That is your Government.
A government feed of the bottom, until dry, to become a fire never feels full.

Not one person ever shoots innocent people unless afflicted by some well concealed neurosis. First, blame Hollywood and the sub human elements known as script writers. Pornography and anti-social misgivings are loaded down upon children at earlier ages. Criminals now control our country. It is now a crime in order for one not to be some sort of criminal within America. It is the work of sociopaths, who have lost contact with their fellow man. Sadly, innocent people lost their lives because one individual was mentally disturbed at the walls of a misinformed national society.

And as far as leaving it up to police to have the weapons and trusting them with your safety, how did that work here? Had a responsible, law abiding citizen with a concealed carry permit been allowed to carry into the theater and had the opportunity to take this guy out, how many lives might have been saved. Pass all the laws you want, criminals will still not abide by them, that’s why their called criminals.
