In the Los Angeles Times today, MSNBC’s Al Sharpton writes on states crafting new voting laws:
“Across the country, states have passed or have proposed new rules for voting, such as photo ID requirements and restrictions in early and absentee voting. The laws are new, but to many of us they’re just the same old tricks. I remember when tactics like these were called Jim Crow. …
“Every American 18 or older has the right to vote. Poor Americans, black Americans, Americans who live in rural areas, Americans of every background. For decades we have recognized this truth, making it easier to vote, expanding options for casting ballots and improving access to registration. These new ID laws take us backward; they truly are nothing more than modern-day poll taxes and literacy tests.”

Aug. 8, 2012 at 2:11pmThere is a temptation to oppose anything Sharpton proposes since he is a known racist and liar. Still, I did live through Jim Crow laws and applauded heartily when they were declared unconstitutional. There is no current state that is allowed to discriminate against voters. Nor does anyone of any significance ask for the reinstatement of those laws. What is sought today is to ensure only eligible voters are able to vote. Given the re-emergence of ACORN by other names, registering voters, and the Cooke County habit of large blocs of voters from cemeteries, it is not unreasonable to ask for photo ID’s to present at voting places. Al Sharpton has no legitimate interest in the integrity of the ballot box, so I’d say that Big Al, is as always full of horse manure.

Aug. 7, 2012 at 10:28pmObama, Sharpton, Holder, Pelosi, Jarrett, Bill Ayers, and Napolitano and Van Jones are out of the same piece of cloth. They are enemies of America and should be jailed and made to leave America if they ever get out of jail.

Aug. 7, 2012 at 10:25pmLets tell the Truth, Al. Every American who is eligible to vote has a right to vote. You people (take this any way you want, ‘you people’ want to cheat the tax paying Americans out of their vote by allowing votes that are not legal to happen. Well, if ID for voting helps prevent cheating, then it has to be. People like Al Sharpton and Obama, Holder and the Black Panthers are the ones wanting illegal votes and voter suppression by not making sure those voting are eligible. They want to cheat this election. They want to steal not only the American vote, but the wealth in this country and line their own pockets with it under the pretex of helping “the poor.” These shuck and jive pimp daddys are not caring about anyone but their own selves and the Obama agenda to help them help themselves. They are killing your little black babies by promoting abortion. Do not forget: Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Obama has tried to hijack Abraham Lincoln. Obama and Sharpton are low lifes.

Aug. 7, 2012 at 7:41pmIf getting a photo ID is that complicated how can they read a ballot and use a voting machine? I think most minorities are smart enough to get a photo ID, to bad Al thinks they are to stupid.

Aug. 7, 2012 at 3:01pmThe biggest discouragement to voting in my area is just FINDING the place to vote each time. Unless I participate in early voting, which is always in the same place, I find myself driving around looking for the right place to vote. I have lived in the same house since 1989 and the place I vote has changed almost every time there is any kind of election. It is like a hide and seek game to figure out where to go vote. Just last week when I went to vote for Ted Cruz.. yes, I told you who I voted for… I finally found the phone number to call the elections office because none of the regular places was ‘the place’. They told me several places had been combined into one several miles away… I drove there and was it fun to figure out where to go.. one teeny tiny sign outside to tell me where to go since it was a school and they were also having registration for the kids. I ran into many other voters who complained of the same problem.. different voting sites for every election. A little consistancy would make it a LOT EASIER to find the place. I guess it is easy for those that are bussed in and don’t have to worry about finding it themseves… I wonder how many give up finding the polling place on their own?! … and they complain about ID????

Aug. 7, 2012 at 2:02pmYou give poor black folks food stamps and then require them to have driver’s licenses to drive their car to the grocery store? Clearly racial discrimination and a premeditated scheme by the white man to disenfranchise blacks. The white man is just plain trying to starve blacks. The DMV must be eliminated!

Aug. 7, 2012 at 1:38pmDoes anyone even know what Sharpton is talking about? Literacy tests, taking us backward b/c an ID is required to vote? You have to have an ID to buy a bottle of beer in case you are carded. You have to show an ID at a theater if you see an R rated movie. You go to the Division of Motor Vehicles and pay a nominal fee to get an ID. It’s not difficult. It’s not costly. Oh……..are you wanting to allow felons and illegals the right to vote? Is that your issue Mr. Sharpton. You appear IGNORANT when you say things such as this. People that have nothing to hide, hide nothing!

Aug. 7, 2012 at 1:28pmCan’t we just put photos on EBT cards and solve EBT card fraud and voter ID requirements at the same time?
To have voter IDs throughout the US I would be happy to support legislation to give each US citizen on Social Security or Welfare an extra disbursement of $100 to facilitate their obtaining a Voter ID card. And in the future, each time a citizen applied for social security benefits or welfare they are asked if they had acceptable photo ID and if not, an acceptable photo ID was issued on the spot free of charge!

Aug. 7, 2012 at 2:09pmPhotos? That’s institutionalized racism. Don’t you know that the police could use the photo to frame blacks for crimes. You must be fair and allow blacks the freedom to commit crimes.

Says the illiteracy King of America. Fine then, no more welfare, because we cannot expect people to have an ID for that can we? The liberal mind is a terrible thing.
