Media foam at the mouth over Mitt’s ‘birth certificate’ joke

Mitt Romney cracked a joke at a campaign stop this afternoon in Michigan which has people on both sides of the aisle in a frenzy.  Some say it was a poke at birthers, yet birthers are taking it to mean that Romney’s coming on board with them.  Some say it was a poke at liberals who whisper about Romney’s racist undertones. In response, liberals are… well, continuing to call Romney a racist.

But I disagree with both of these assumptions. I think the joke was aimed squarely at the media.

Let’s face it — the “birther” movement has had no bigger fan than the mainstream media who likes to paint all Republicans as hateful racists who cling to God, guns and conspiracy theories to protect themselves from an apocalyptic invasion of minorities and gays, or something. So while the reporters at the Romney rally today gasped at Romney’s supposedly overt racism, the audience got the joke, responding to Romney’s dry humor with applause and laughter.

It’s a perfect example of a “secondary reaction” joke, Ace of Spades HQ writes. “The joke itself is lame. The humor comes from imagining the reaction of the thin-skinned Obama and his hyperprotective partisans in the press.”

It’s true — the reaction of the media to Romney’s joke has been hysterical:

– Never one to overreact, MSNBC calmly discussed the “breaking news” of Romney’s quip and labeled it the “most despicable bigotry we can imagine.”  (Seriously? Dear MSNBC, open a history book once in a while, will ya?)

– Mediaite’s resident boy-who-cried-racist Tommy Christopher proclaimed that MSNBC’s Touré was right in accusing Romney of using “n***rization” as a campaign tool to “racially marginalize” President Obama.

–CNN’s John King tweeted that his “birther comment” ruined a perfectly good day for Romney.

–Reporters at the Huffington Post were beside themselves, saying it was “awkward for Romney to play on the birther conspiracies that have plagued Barack Obama.”  Uh, awkward for whom, exactly?

–Salon.com headlined their report, “Romney Goes Birther,” and said the joke was proof the GOP candidate was “doubling down on whiteness.”

–The Washington Post also weighed in, writing that Romney’s joke “injected the toxic issue of birtherism into an already bitter presidential race.” Wah-wah.

Like the media and any other “rational” person, the Obama camp also didn’t think Romney’s joke was funny:

“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them,” said campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt. “Gov. Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”

The outraged Obama campaign wasted no time in trying to use this “new low for Romney” as a springboard for a new email fundraising push.  Yet the Obama campaign itself has repeatedly joked about the conspiracy theories surrounding President Obama’s birth certificate — they even make money off of it!

Gee, you know who else likes to joke about birthers?  Barack Obama does:

I think perhaps Romney should just randomly insert the words “birth certificate” into every stump speech he delivers from here on out — it’s the best way to get media attention.  Obama accuses Romney of being a tax-dodging felon and the media yawns.  Romney cracks a birth certificate joke and they soil themselves.  I bet if Ann Romney added “birth certificate” to her remarks at the upcoming convention, the media wouldn’t hesitate to broadcast it.

I disagree with the author: the joke was funny on its own. Without getting into the whole “where was he born” argument, it touches on the fact that so many people feel within their core that Obama is not one of them, that he is the polar opposite of everything America stands for. No one questions where Mitt was born. He _believe_ in America. Barry, not so much.

    AND LAST QUESTION -
    4. Perhaps a clue comes from Obama’s book on his father. He states how proud he is of his father fighting in WW II. I’m not a math genius, so I may need some help from you. Barack Obama’s “birth certificate” says his father was 25 years old in 1961 when he was born. That should have put his father’s date of birth approximately 1936—if my math holds . Now we need a non-revised history book—one that hasn’t been altered to satisfy the author’s goals—to verify that WW II was basically between 1939 and 1945. Just how many 3 year olds fight in wars? Even in the latest stages of WW II his father wouldn’t have been more than 9. Does that mean that Mr. Obama is a liar, or simply chooses to alter the facts to satisfy his imagination or political purposes (still qualifies as a “liar”) ?

I don’t believe that I have seen these questions before.

    1. Back in 1961 people of color were called ‘Negroes.’ So how can the Obama ‘birth certificate’ state he is “African-American” when the term wasn’t even used at that time ?

    2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama’s birth as August 4, 1961 & Lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right ? At the time of Obama’s birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama’s father was born in ” Kenya , East Africa”. This wouldn’t seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama’s birth, and 27 years after his father’s birth. How could Obama’s father have been born in a country that did not yet exist ? Up and until Kenya was formed
in 1963, it was known as the “British East Africa Protectorate”.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenya_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenya)

    3. On the Birth Certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is “Kapi’olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital”. This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called “KauiKeolani Children’s Hospital” and “Kapi’olani Maternity Home”, respectively. The name did not change to Kapi’olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. How can this name of the hospital be on a

The “media” is upset because they know it’s true. Obama is the first “birther” he is the one that started it by having his publicist write for 16 years that he was “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia.” It’s Obama who has spent 2 million dollars in attorney’s fees to prevent his birth certificate from coming out, rather than pay 20 bucks and mail it in, like you or I would do. He started. Only he can end it.

All the issues of the economy and where Obama is taking America has been and will continue to be covered, but this is a real issue for the American people to consider. This man is not eligible to be in our White House and if people do not stand up for what is right now, they will not be able to later.

When you are over the target getting flack, you better finish your job or the flack will blow you out of the air. Fight back. Demand proof that will satisfy the real investigators and the birthers. Why not. If they can produce this, the real things needed, then we can spend the next years apologizing daily, but that does not mean he will get my vote for his policies are not in sync with America.

MUST HAVE HIT a sensitive spot, huh? Get over it media. You suck and you know it. PROVE THE DAMN BIRTH CERTIFICATE already! Have a team of experts – both “sides” on the issue, and have them go and examine it. That settles it, one way or another. What are you afraid of?

Or does liar in chief just amuse himself with all the secrecy? Want Mitt’s tax forms going back 12 years? Good – a trade: let’s see Obama’s transcripts from the 3 schools he attended. How about how he financed the colleges? Loans? Gov’t loans? Foreign student loans? Prove it, Barry. Let’s see some articles from the Harvard Review?

I really love Romney mixing it up out there, he’s clearly gotten under the media’s skin and I would suggest to keep it up. This stuff gets reported over and over and over again to all of the so-called main stream media outlets even though nobody’s watching which gets to my main point the press are the only ones watching or paying attention to those people so this is a great way of showing them what we’re about. The big thing is how we can laugh at stuff like this and watch the media blow up.

Smart move taking my advice, Mitt.

Now, YOU personally don’t bring it up again unless asked….But don’t apologize..Hold the line on it…

You got the point across….Now let your surrogates hammer on it, and DON”T APOLOGIZE for them, rather turn the tables, and put Obama on the defensive with it

Also, it’s time for some FAST AND FURIOUS action…It’s a real scandal…Creating crime on purpose so as to make a political point? Seriously?..That would be downright criminal…HE (AND HOLDER) NEEDS TO BE HELD TO ACCOUNT by the American people.

I don’t see how questioning Obama’s eligibility given his parentage, living arrangements in Indonesia, and his own admissions (his book promotion in his own words) can somehow be spun as the tired old “racist” accusation mantra..Yawn.

Don’t sweat it…Believe me, the vast majority see right through the cheap desperation…The vast majority are also really sick of it and the political correctness agenda dominated by a handful of elite reporters.

They know it, too…That’s why they’re worried…I can hear the shrill…

Mitt has an extra challenge that Obama doesn’t have. Mitt has to deal with the “chosen people” ran Marxist Media on a daily basis, while they are in partnership with Obama. Obama gets a free pass at whatever he says or does by the Marxist Media while Mitt is constantly put on the defensive by those “chosen people” media elitists. Mitt and all Republicans are at a definite disadvantage when they have the Marxist Media constantly attacking them.

Oh he informs us that the cartoon was a joke? That’s exactly what I asked him when he posted his long form birth certificate because I wasn’t quite sure and said: “This is a joke right?”

He knows, as well as we that much Truth is said in jest. He wanted it outed. He just has other things to cover as well. The man knows what he is doing 24/7 for he is not a drunk or drug user who thinks clearly and lives above board. This is the type man we need in our White House. He thinks long and hard, weighs things out and acts. He knows exactly what he is doing. He is like the rest of us and can see who and what is in our White House and what this phoney, ineligible man is trying to do to America. It is just not the time for a full face off on it for this is the worst thing that has ever happened to America from within since the inception of this great country.

All you who are trying to make lite of the truth will see, but it may be too late, especially if Romney was not to be elected this coming November. This is reminiscent of when Tom Cruise consumed the Mohammed goo and developed a censor box around his body, effectively shielding himself from criticism – only it didn’t work when Stan and the boys continued to make fun of him. Obama and the media thought they had their man protected completely, that they had made him impervious to all criticism. Then BAM! Mitt delivers the silly one-liner and their whole suit of armor is worthless. Obama is vulnerable, and they are pissed about it.
