Outrageous new Obama ad: Republican women for Obama?

I shouldn’t have watched the latest Obama campaign ad so soon after eating my lunch. It made me sick to my stomach — both as a proud conservative, and as a woman.

“If you’re a conservative woman, and you believe in small government, then Barack Obama is your candidate,” the ad proclaims, “because he’s keeping the government out of the decisions that should remain between you and God, and you and your own conscience.”

First of all, really?  When you think “small government,” is Barack Obama among the very first things that comes to your mind?  Yeah, me neither.

Second of all, I cannot tell you how SICK and TIRED I am of having the Democratic Party and President Obama narrowly define “women’s issues” as birth control and abortion.  Newsflash: women have brains in addition to vaginas.  And with my very capable brain, I can tell you that the characterization of women as victims of some sort of conservative assault on their “rights” is not only degrading to my gender, but also insulting to my intelligence.

How, as a woman, am I all of a sudden in crisis because, under Romney, the federal government might continue to not take issue with my easily accessible and oh-so-inexpensive birth control?

Oh, could it be because Obama’s approval rating among women has slipped precipitously since he took office?

There are so many other issues in this presidential race to which women should pay attention, but President Obama hopes they don’t.

Here are just a few to mull over:

– 17 million women are living in poverty today — up 800,000 since President Obama took office;

– 7.5 million women are living in “extreme” poverty;

Women working in President Obama’s White House are paid 18% less than his male employees;

Women want their family’s health care decisions to be made by their doctors, not unelected bureaucrats;

Women don’t want $4/gallon gasoline prices;

– Unemployment among women has gone up 15 percent since President Obama was inaugurated;

Women are gaining jobs at 1/4 the pace of men;

Women want the nation’s economy to grow more than 1.5% annually;

Women don’t want to pass on trillions of dollars in debt and deficits to their children;

Women want to retire someday, hopefully before Social Security goes bankrupt; and

Women want stability in the housing market, not continuing record numbers of foreclosures and declining home values.

With all this in mind, how is it that the women in this ad think contraception and abortion are the most important issues this election?

Via Charlie Sperling, here’s the nauseating ad:

I understand that some women (ahem, Ms. Fluke) are passionate about women’s “reproductive freedom.”  But, as a woman, I want my faith and its moral reservations about contraception respected, not ignored.

I’ve seen what President Obama thinks about women and the lives we lead.  I’ve met Julia — the hypothetical American woman whose life’s enrichment comes from the guiding hand of Barack Obama.  This is not a vision I hold for myself and it certainly is not one which my mother ever held for me.  I was raised to be a strong, proud, independent woman who provides for herself and her family, not a woman who looks to politicians like Barack Obama to define my abilities and successes.

And if the women in this ad honestly view birth control and abortion as the defining issues of this election, then they’re the ones tied up in Joe Biden’s chains and they deserve four more years of Barack Obama.

What kind of woman are you?  Tell us about your thoughts on this ad with a comment!

    I am a 54 year old female. I have 2 children and six grandchildren. I am a registered independent but tend to vote republican. My mother riased seven children, worked and took care of my ailing father. I am proud to be her daughter. She went back to school when we were small and earned a masters in social work. I am now taking care of my husband who is physically disabled and a brother who is mentally disabled. My mother was strong and I am strong. I don’t need government inteferring in my life. My daughters do not want government paying for their birth control and I never had to worry about either one of them having an abortion. They are strong and are raising their children to be strong. We do not need Obama or anything he may have to offer.

    Do you understand the difference depicted on a Bell Shaped Curve?

    Wow, how ignorant and brainwashed are they to think this set up will cause us to change our educated minds about Obama. They truly think that all we think about is abortions and birth control. Wow, try everything else is on our minds. I know that so many of the other issues are more important than those two little issues. How about all of these women crying about abortions, teach the many so called women and little girls, how to use condoms or how to say no and keep their legs closed til they are ready to have a baby. We have more important issues to worry about and fix than what you want.

    Wonder where that baby came from? That is a cute little girl who looks like Lisa Irwin missing at age 8 months, I believe a year ago this past October. I guess she would be about a-year-and-a-half now or so?

    This ad made me laugh out loud! The democrats (including all of the ones in this ad) can’t even see how juvenile and hypocritical this new twist of theirs is…if you want smaller government vote Obama! Really? I’m having a laughing fit all over again!

    This ad is just another fine example of just how stupid democrats think republicans are. With Obamacare looming over our heads how idiodic is it to try and convince anyone, not just women, that Obama is for small government and wants us to have the freedom to make desicions about what we can and cannot do with our bodies!? LOL!! Republicans have moved too far to the right!? LOL!!!

    But, I’ll just focus on abortion: I don’t know a single republican woman (and I know MANY) who does not believe in birth control. Almost all of the republican woman I know believe that it is a very personal decision as to whether or not a woman wants to abort when her life is in danger or if she is pregnant as a result of rape or incest. and believe she should have the option to do so. But, I do not know a single republican woman that believes in partial-birth abortion or late term abortion! Nor do I know a single republican woman that would even think of supporting a man as president that supports and defends the latter.

    Meredith your comments made in your blog are excellent!

      Wow, beautifully put. I keep on telling people that I feel that way about abortions also and so on. It just cracks me up about democrats and I have realized that I actually am a republican and not an independent like I initially thought.

    I would usually withhold any remarks on commentary regarding women’s issues (being a 52 year-old man), but I have to say that this is the most encouraging and thoughtful commentary I think I’ve read this election cycle. Bravo for the author, and for the many women that weighed in! Fan the flames of discourse and destroy the Democratic mantra!

    Argh! This is what they really think freedom of choice is? Idiots. Freedom to kill the most important thing they will EVER be responsible for? Right, good choice. Thank heaven for real conservative women, the ones that raise our nation’s children. Don’t let them get away with this vicious idiocy , be vocal ladies! Let them know what we really think of this.

    The ad is ridiculous. I am sure Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are going to have much more important things to worry about than birth control. The economy for instance. Thank you for giving me information I can use when some of my more liberal friends and relatives spout their nonsense.

    RINOs are encouraged to leave the party quietly.

    I get so mad at this entire argument.

    As a registered republican who has always voted republican;

    First, I don’t want to pay for your exercising what you claim as reproductive rights. I believe you should pay for birth control and abortions from your own wallet or buy health insurance which will cover it.

    Second, it is child abuse and murder to kill babies, and one of the most horrific acts of nature. Oh but wait you believe that is only once the baby is born, right?

    Third, what if the life you decided was so expendable for the expedient moment was going to provide you with a kidney or bone marrow transplant to save your life or the child you later choose is worth giving birth to….whoops?

    Fourth, what if the child was going to…..the potential of that life was only limited by your lack of imagination and heartless indifference to their little heartbeat.

    Fifth, are you ladies all in the teachers union?

    Sixth, Fluke is a lesibian which severely limits any concerns for her reproducing, birth control, or desire for an abortion.

    Seventh, stop the harlotry: elect not to have sex! and especially with people you don’t want to reproduce with, drink less alcohol, carry condoms, ……

    Eight, What do you expect from Obama?

    A fox always tries to catch and consume the, weak, young, old, and “unproductive” in the babbling HENHOUSE!

    Ninth, when can we as women, start being straight forward and

    For some voters, reproductive “rights” trump the economy & national security.Their logic is irrational due to their emotional crusade that renders them incapable of rational thought. Kind of like driving 1,000 miles to buy a purse that is on sale.

    Bless their hearts. These women claim to be conservative and yet they have no idea what the word means. One even says to be a moderate. How can one be both moderate and conservative? As a fiscally-conservative independent who is pro-choice, I find it offensive that the taxpayers are asked to pay for women’s choices and decisions. Voting on a single issue is ridiculous. These ladies should be ashamed of themselves.

    All I know is THIS woman will not and will never vote for someone who thinks it’s hunky dorey to kill unborn babies as a method of birth control.

    I will never vote for someone who doesn’t believe that babies who survive abortion are worthy of life.

    I won’t vote for someone who thinks women who have a moral conscience should not be taken seriously or even considered at all.

    And I will NEVER vote for some amadan who thinks the govt knows what’s best for my family better than I do.

      Freedom of choice is what we stand for and that doesn’t include asking the rest of the country to pay for your sick choices. obama voted in favor of killing late term babies and tossing them out to die if the chemicals didn’t take care of them first. IS THIS YOUR CHOICE? Really? Think about it.
