The purpose of the Democratic convention is to celebrate Barack Obama as the party’s nominee for president. But the New York Times says that in Charlotte, it’s often “the MSNBC convention.” The first lady has her fans there and so do the network’s liberal commentators.

A woman accosted Mika Brzezinski, the co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” as she walked into a stall, pleading with her to pose for a photograph.

“I am like, o-o-o-kay,” Ms. Brzezinski recalled. “And she continues to talk to me as I’m in” — she pauses, shaking her head in disbelief — “the bathroom.”
