Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, despised by many on the right, has found friends in an unlikely place: The Republican Party.
Emanuel is currently dealing with a city-wide strike by teachers’ unions regarding wages and evaluations. He called the strike “one of choice” and said it was “the wrong choice for our children.” Today is the second day of the strike.
At a fundraiser in Portland, Ore., yesterday Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan said, “We stand with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.” He acknowledged that Emauel probably won’t be supporting the Romney-Ryan ticket, but said Emanuel “is right today in saying that this teacher’s union strike is unnecessary and wrong.”
Mitt Romney hasn’t said he supports Emanuel by name, but he did come out against the teachers’ unions yesterday, saying they “have too often made plain that their interests conflict with those of our children.” (Emanuel called Romney’s statement “lip service.”)
The latest awkward hug for Emanuel comes today from former New York City Mayor Mayor Rudy Giuliani. “I hope he wins,” Giuliani said on CNN.

Sep. 11, 2012 at 9:34pmObama coming in to save the day? I listen to Rush Limbaugh too, and I heard this. Rush is rarely wrong about these things. He was spot on about what an Obama Presidency would mean for this country back in 2007. The thing is, I have a hard time seeing how this could be a win win situation for Obama. By saving the day he either agrees with Emanuel and ****** the Teachers Union off. Or he agrees that the Teachers Unions should have their raises while Chicago is broke, and ****** a large percentage of the voters off. Chicago teachers already make more than even NYC Union Teachers.

Sep. 11, 2012 at 8:27pmRahm is allowing this to allow Obama to come in and seem like he cares about the taxpayers, like a republican. He’ll try to make a showing that he’s not %100 union. Just wait for it by the end of the week.
