Bill O’Reilly says he wouldn’t anchor ABC News: ‘It’s too boring’

Interviewing Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly for NBC, legendary newsman Ted Koppel proposed an interesting hypothetical: What would O’Reilly do if given the chance to anchor a network nightly newscast?

“Money is not going to be a problem. What do you do?” Koppel said. “I don’t do it,” O’Reilly replied. “It’s too boring. It would not be nearly as much fun as teeing the world off every night here. And having all the reaction and being able to do things I could never do in a hard news broadcast.”

The clip below from last night’s 30 Rock with Brian Williams has more of the interview. It takes a look at the evolution of cable news and how it has shaped public discourse. Watch:

Bill O’Reilly will sometimes say supporting comments about Romney, then in a heartbeat, he turns around and sides with the liberal view. At least he and Fox commentators are more likely to support Romney for the most part, but in order to look “fair and balanced”, but sometimes they bend over backwards to give liberals a longer time to express their views. Dr. Glen Beck, from the Blaze channel, is clear and direct-no dancing around–and he is truthful-which is a rare thing these days. The difference between listening to Bill and Glen in where they stand?–One is like looking through the bottom of a green pop bottle and the other a fine crystal goblet. Thank Dr. Beck–you are truly a patriot and I will keep watching Blaze. Romney for President!!

I’m not sure that any network could handle him as an anchor. As I’ve noticed, Network Anchor is just another word for News Reader. O’Reilly is far too feisty, opinionated, and intelligent to sit in front of a camera repeating news bites. Yes, he can be annoying, but he certainly hits the issues squarely, with honesty and accuracy.

For years, O’Reilly either anchored or reported for Inside Edition back in the 1980′s and that was really the emergence of tabloid-based “journalism” into mainstream television.

The news wasn’t “sexy” enough, so sleaze shows such as Inside Edition and Hard Copy gave the news a little bit of pizazz….

The rest is history as they say and media moguls with deep roots in tabloid journalism such as Rupert Murdoch took 1/2 hour shows like Inside Edition or Hard Copy and literally turned them into 24/7 networks (i.e. FOX News).

Right–he would sell his mother to become a network anchor! This guy tries every now and then to act like he is “one of the folks” or “conservative” when he is neither.
