On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, Mark Halperin of TIME asked Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod if the president has a plan to reform Social Security in a second term.

“We have to approach it in a balanced way,” Axelrod said. “We’re not going to cut our way to prosperity. … We have to have a balance.”

“What’s [Obama's] proposal?” Halperin pressed.

Here, Axelrod got a little sassy. “Mark, I’ll tell you what– when you get elected to the United States Senate and sit at that table… this is not the time. We’re not going to have that discussion right now.”

Axelrod went on to say “The reality of Social Security is this is a much less eminent problem than Medicare” (a peculiar statement, considering Medicare is in part financed by deductions from Social Security).
