‘Slate’ asks: Would it help if Mitt Romney were fat?
An article in Slate by fashion commentator Simon Doonan seriously entertains the notion that if Mitt Romney were fat, he’d be doing better in the polls:
Back in the day, heft was associated with gravitas and power, leadership, and trust. Fat blokes, by their very physiques, projected monumental indestructability [sic]. …
Would Mitt Romney’s ratings improve if he packed on a few pounds … ? Might a little girth give him a dash of much-needed gravitas and halt his downward spiral? It might be worth a shot. His current retro-wholesome matinee idol shtick—I associate him with Rock Hudson’s wooden character in that strangely artificial Douglas Sirk movie The Magnificent Obsession—could use the realness of a beer belly.

Posted on September 27, 2012 at 10:07amSlate certainly comes up with some interesting and flamboyant things. This one in particular is quite pointless. It’s an interesting thought but all it does is show Slate does not care about real issues and results and writes like little children, on topics which yield no actual intellectual stimulation or benefit.

At the conclusion I found myself praying that God would protect my country or at the least wake enough people to see what our government is doing to us. Fellow citizens I beg you to pray for our country, for once we lose, not only will we lose the freedom our founders so valiantly fought for but our very foundation of faith will be in jepoardy. We cannot afford to be spectators any more. We must get involved! Our country is crying for help and it needs us all. Democrats, Republicans, Independents this is still our country! I beg of you all to come together for this worthy cause. I pray God will move you and bless this land. I will be by your sides protecting our Constitution in whatever way I can.
