Who could blame Jim Lehrer for hiding today?
From the New York Times:
[Jim] Lehrer’s light touch was widely criticized during and after the debate on Wednesday night, particularly by Democrats who felt that President Obama’s Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, effectively moderated the debate himself. …
Mr. Lehrer, 78, the former anchor of the “NewsHour” on PBS, moderated 11 presidential debates between 1988 and 2008. He had sworn off moderating future debates until the Commission on Presidential Debates convinced him to come back earlier this year. Mr. Lehrer declined an interview request on Thursday.
So Lehrer declined to speak with the New York Times about last night’s debate. But who could blame him?

Posted on October 5, 2012 at 9:50ami think he handled it good, even with the pres useing 5 extra mins to toss b.s. running the clock down, which was thrown back by romney responding after time ran out, great debate,i think a cage match till one leaves standing would be even better, but were civilized??at least conservatives,in view of liberal knashing of teeth at each loss.mitt better bring a gun or bat to the next one, their gonna be real un-civilized animals, time for mitt to get tougher like the saying”no more mr nice guy,on your knees birtch”??

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 3:53pmThe libs are just mad a Lehrer because he did not play the liberal waterboy and toss easy pitches to Obama and gotcha questions at Romney……Lehrer was supposed to ask about the 47%, Bain Capital, Dog on the Roof and the Mormon Cult and he did not do it!! Waaaaaah wwaaaaaaaah.
Obama did not know he was going to be on that stage ALL BY HIMSELF with no teleprompter or aide!! How is Obama expected to handle a businessman with experience when all he did all his life was be eye candy and incite poor people?? It just is not fair!

Keep Your Skepticals On
Posted on October 4, 2012 at 10:06pmThat is about all I can see. I thought Jim Leher and the format of the debate was good. The clock ran out before the last segment but I allowing the extra responses from both of them was priceless. All of the cheap-shots came at the end of the segments with the idea that their opponent would not be able to respond, but they in fact were able to, which really brought a more constructive debate I think. It brings out the truth when politicians suddenly have to answer for the accusations they normally save for when their opponent to be unable to address it directly.

Check out the internet reaction to the debate and you‘ll see a widespread ’glass half empty’ notion about Lehrer NOT bringing up the climate change issue. More folks supporting the idea of man-caused climate change need to figure out LEhrer’s so-called “failure” was probably something that allows the issue to survive for at least one more day.
Had Lehrer brought up the issue, it may very well have opened the door for Romney to ask why Lehrer’s NewsHour, a program otherwise noted for its guests representing two sides of any given issue, has apparently excluded skeptic climate scientists from participating in rebuttal discussions with relatively frequent IPCC scientist guests for over 15 YEARS.
And it may have also opened the door for Romney to talk about John Holdren, a man who formerly advised the governor on climate change and who is now Obama’s science czar…… but Holdren has problems that Obama likely wishes to keep OUT of the public eye.
I described both problems on Sept 13th, please see: “Gore’s Climate Reality Project begs Debate Moderator Jim Lehrer: Ask Romney and Obama about Climate Change” http://junkscience.com/2012/09/13/gores-climate-reality-project-begs-debate-moderator-jim-lehrer-ask-romne
