Brace yourselves: Alan Grayson is winning in FL-09

We thought we were rid of him after his landslide defeat in 2010, but former Rep. Alan “Die Quickly” Grayson is back on the ballot this year in the newly drawn 9th Congressional District — and he’s winning.

According to Real Clear Politics, nutty progressive is besting his Republican opponent, Todd Long, and the race is currently considered a “likely Dem” win.

God help us — Alan Grayson is returning to Washington.

Not everyone in Florida is thrilled about the progressive hero’s electoral prospects. The editorial board of the Orlando Sentinel opted to support NO ONE for Congress in the 9th District rather than lend their endorsement to Grayson or Long:

We’ve faced difficult choices in the past, and in recent years have felt compelled to make a pick nevertheless.

But in this race, we’ll pass.

Neither candidate gives voters in District 9 any reason to expect the steady leadership and statesmanship that they deserve and Congress needs.

Elected to Congress in 2008, Democrat Alan Grayson became the toast of the left-wing blogosphere and a must-get on MSNBC for his over-the-top attacks on Republicans.

The schtick didn’t play as well with voters in his old district and he lost his re-election bid by almost 18 points.

Grayson, an Orlando lawyer, is now making a comeback bid in this new district, which includes all of Osceola County and southeast Orange and northeast Polk counties.

If he was chastened by his landslide loss in 2010, there’s no sign of it; he’s been spouting the same hyperpartisan rhetoric ever since. Last year he referred to Democrats who would compromise with Republicans as “weenies.”

If there’s a silver lining to be found here, it’s that Grayson will once again provide us with ample comedic material.

Having been a volunteer for the man, and being a resident of the new Florida 9th, I am absolutely giddy that MY community will be sending one of the few strong Progressives in this country back to Congress. To look at my current Congressman, Bill Posey, a corporate stooge who argues for billions in subsidies to the most profitable industry in the world, I never believed I would get the voice I wanted representing me in Washington. Well, wouldn’t ya know it, they kept Bill Posey out of Osceola County, and forced him into battling the exact same milquetoast faux-liberal he beat in 2010.

I would think anyone living in Osceola county, which comprises most of his district would simply be happy that we could have a Congressman who knows how to bring in the Federal dollars we need to get this area going again. We’ve been abandoned by Walt Disney. They’ve built 10 hotels in the last 15 years, and it’s destroyed the 192 corridor. Our unemployment rate is insanely high, and what jobs there are show little in the way of high-achievement. Unless you know how to cook, clean, or serve, you might as well move to Orlando and get the better schools. We, and Polk county beneath us, desperately need infrastructure spending in order to improve our economy.

I support Alan Grayson. I’m voting for Alan Grayson, and I’m meeting working people every day who can plainly see that Todd Long has no interest in helping this area. Win or lose, look for me at the Grayson victory party. It’ll b

I appreciate the attention our district is getting from National press due to Grayson however you neglected to state some important facts in the article. Todd Long beat Alan Grayson hands down in the only debate Grayson would have with Long. Grayson has $millions more to spend than Long but it is a very tight race. Long has built a strong grass-roots campaign and has the support of small business owners, independents and of course Republicans all while getting no official support (read $) from the Party. In a district redrawn to be won by a Hispanic, Long is steadily winning over voters. The Sentinel and the Orlando Chamber will never support a candidate who is not a slick politician. We don’t need any more Slick Willies or Pugnacious Graysons. We need fiscally conservative leader who has a background in Economics (Long), Small Business Owner (Long), has a Real Plan to take us to a prosperous future.

I have met many Democrats, Republicans, and Non Partisans voters who have said they are voting for Todd Long. The faces people give when I mention Alan Grayson’s name are humorous to see.

There was a questioner that was used to favor Grayson. If this was the pole that Orlando Sentinel was talking about, it’s very misleading.

St Pete Polls has more of bipartisan view. Even though, it still leans toward the left.

Oh, Geez! I can NOT have that man as my congressman! Donate to Long if you can. If you live in D9, Please Please Please help keep Grayson out! Grayson is able to spend on deceitful ads and polls biased to him. If he wins, FL D9 will not be the only place affected. If everyone comes together, we can keep him out. We MUST keep him out!

Alan has a jurisprudence degree from Harvard and it is all ready well established that there is no minimum anything required for admittance to Harvard law. With Alan they should have considered sanity.

It’s real interesting that you just take the Orlando Sentinl at it’s word here… this newspaper has a history of being anti-Tea Party and while it cannot bring itself to publicly embrace an embarrassment like Alan Grayson, it opposes Todd Long primarily because of his Tea Party affiliation. Perhaps a call to support Long instead of resigning yourself to what you see as the inevitable would actually affect the outcome.

A local polling outfit StPetePolls did a recent poll that showed Grayson up just 45% to 42%. As the old saying goes, it ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings and last I checked, she was busy assisting Obama win a debate.
