It’s not clear whether Romney supporters are making this ad buy because they think some of the state’s electoral votes are legitimately up for grabs, or because it’s fun to mess with President Obama’s confidence. Either way, gutsy call:
Restore Our Future, the Super PAC supporting Mitt Romney, has reserved television airtime in Maine beginning later this week, according to a Republican source tracking media buys.
The group plans to air $300,000 worth of ads in the Bangor, Presque Isle and Portland-Auburn markets, the latter of which also covers parts of New Hampshire, from Oct. 25 through Oct. 29.
The move suggests Romney allies see Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, which encompasses the state’s northern reaches, as fertile ground for the Republican.
Unlike other states, Maine allocates its electoral votes by congressional district. With Obama leading in statewide polls by double-digits, it could be possible for Romney to pull out a single electoral vote on election day, which, in such a close contest, could make a significant difference:
Surveying the map of contested swing states, one scenario jumps out: If Obama loses Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Colorado and Iowa, but holds Wisconsin, Virginia, New Hampshire and Nevada, he still picks up the 270 electoral votes needed to win.
But a victory for Romney in Maine’s 2nd District would push that total back down to 269 votes and force a tie in the Electoral College.

Oct. 25, 2012 at 9:57amI’m another Mainer who encourages Romney not to count Maine out. This state has hurt for a long time under Democrat leadership. We are notedly liberal. Health insurers are required to cover all pre-existing conditions. We have the most expensive health insurance in the nation as a result. This is what Obamacare will bring us. Many of us want a change from the liberals (Chellie Pingree who is one of the richest members of Congress “represents” us but isn’t one of us….she is one of the wealthiest members of Congress)!!! A few advertising dollars may not be wasted here!

Oct. 24, 2012 at 7:52pmHooh, boy that would be great. Imagine all of the disgusted “how dare he!”‘s and their fervent pondering about why not every famous person, even a beloved star wouldn’t approve of their Obamessiah. But of course, most of this already happened when he spoke at the convention.

Oct. 24, 2012 at 6:16pmI’m an Independent from Maine…way up north. There’s plenty of Glenn Beck viewers up here. So far, there’s been zip on our stations other than the debates and the media news shows. There’s lots of small business owners. We voted LePage in (a businessman not a lawyer) for govenor. Give us a shot.

The untold story of Benghazi
President Obama and his “team” attacked the western world’s most potent weapon – the right to free and unfettered speech.
The freedom to speak, the freedom to criticize, the freedom to insult other ideas has been the mainstay of liberty since time immemorial. The founders of the American Constitution locked this principle into America’s very foundation. Without this freedom America would not have been able to lift itself beyond all others. Without this freedom America would not be the beacon it now is to the suppressed of the world. Without this freedom America’s economic force would be diminished.
The two week odyssey of Obama’s team apologizing for an American made video, which had been seen by only a handful of people, has weakened America.
How far this rot sets in is now up to the peoples of the United States on November 6.
By the way, to forestall those who claim that free speech can be limited, there is no crime yelling fire in a crowded theatre, if in fact there is a fire.
