Anti-gun Bloomberg turns down help from the gun-toting National Guard

We’ve reported to you how New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is diverting resources away from hurricane clean-up efforts in order to keep the NY Marathon on schedule this weekend. (Glenn also talked about the absurdity this morning on his radio program.)  Meanwhile, residents on Staten Island are diving in dumpsters in hopes of finding food and residents of Coney Island are trying to fight off looters with sticks and stones.  With such a dire situation, you’d think the mayor would take all the help he could get.

Think again.

Bloomberg has reportedly turned down additional help from the U.S. National Guard.  “We don’t need it,” Bloomberg insists, despite pleas from the boroughs for back-up.   “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

::facepalm::

The Brooklyn Paper has more:

[Borough president] Markowitz demanded the National Guard’s help just an hour before Bloomberg’s press conference, claiming that the NYPD and FDNY are “brave — but overwhelmed” by all the challenges Sandy brought when it visited the borough on Monday night: flooding, power outages, and looting.

“All of our resources have been stretched to the limit,” Markowitz said. “In the name of public safety we need to send more National Guard personnel into Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, Gerritsen Beach, Red Hook, and any other locations.”

Markowitz hopes that the sight of an armed soldier would deter criminal activity in the still-unaccessible evacuation zones — such as the rash of break-ins that took place in Coney Island hours after Sandy kissed the borough goodbye — but the Mayor said the NYPD was more than capable of handling the job.

“There are plenty of locations upstate and in surrounding states where they don’t have a police department the size of New York and they can use help [from the National Guard],” said Bloomberg.

I’d like to take this moment to reflect on the lunacy that is Michael Bloomberg and to remind our readers that he’s endorsed Barack Obama for president.  That is all.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

    Okay, but just remember:

In 1994, Mitt Romney supported the Brady Bill, which imposed a five-day waiting period on gun sales, and a ban on particular semi-automatic rifles.

“That’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA. I don’t line up with the NRA.” – Mitt Romney

In 2002, during his campaign for the governorship, Romney said: “We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them. I won’t chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety.” Then he signed a PERMANENT ban on assault weapons in MA!

The man is a charlatan and a RINO. The lesser of two evils is still evil. The only real defender of 2nd Amendment rights in this election is Virgil Goode.

That’s right. ONLY the NYPD should have the kind of firepower they did last summer when the man who had just shot his employer walked out of a building with a gun, the NYPD responding fired 18 times, hitting the guy what, twice, but hit 9 innocent bystanders? Good gun control, mayor. I’ll take the NG anytime over the NYPD’s keystone cops antics.

The epitome of liberal nanny statism run amok. New Yorkers please help one another out of this darkness. Many hands make light work. The government is incapable of saving you. And when the dust settles remember what you accomplished as individuals as the politicians try to convince you that they saved you. God bless and keep you. Many prayers are lifted up for you.

Bloomberg understands that the National Guard are Americans, trained and function under orders? I would rather see the National Guard on my street with food, water and security than …..a bog fat nothing.

Just saw an interview of a woman in NYC who lives in fear of the gangs roaming and looting, and will not go out of what remains of her home. Nor will the neighbors venture out, because they fear they will lose what little they have left.
So they cannot sit in the 8 hour lines to get ‘free’ gasoline, they cannot go pickup food, nor blankets. And what about medication?
They acknowledge that the police are overwhelmed, and appreciate the floodlights set up in their neighborhoods, but admit this really doesn’t solve any of their problems. Mayor Bloomberg doesn’t trust National Guardsmen to help because they carry weapons. Odd, since they need to pass the same tests of proficiency as any active policemen, and I expect they’ve had more recent experience in combat than the police. But, he is the mayor, and I hope NYC remembers this as one of many puzzling decisions he made in their time of need. Is he really that good as a ‘nanny’?

Bloomberg is a selfish jerk, he is putting himself and what he thinks before the people in his city that need help. I think they’ll pay him back when it comes to reelection there.

Hello New York.. are you finally seeing Mayor Bloomberg for what he really is! If not maybe in a week or two you will. And you will wish you had never voted this man into office. He clearly is out of touch with his constituents and I am almost sure he like Obama is a sociopath! God help the innocent in NYC!

Calling all criminals and looters! Take note! NOBODY in NEW YORK has a weapon!!! (Actually there are a few permitted citizens and they are ‘concealed carry’, so you don’t really know who is packing heat!) But the odds are in your favor! Pretend you are in the marathon and come to New York and help yourself!

I have to admit being in MS after Katrina with all the helicopters with floodlights flying overhead at night was a little creepy @ first BUT they brought a sense of calm. They also brought needed supplies into areas, Mayor Bloomberg is being a total ass in all of this. The National Guard needs to be down there to stop the looting and help these people. What are these jerks thinking?

When this is all over, the people of New York should DEMAND that their Constitutional Rights to bear arms be honored! It is too much to expect the NYPD to mitigate all crime when civilization breaks down! There would have to be 3 police officers for every block or 1/2 block in the city (1 per shift) to provide coverage! They should be deputizing citizens right and left to act as local constables until order can be restored! The National Guard can get water and food to those who need it and identify areas where continued evacuations are warranted. Three term Bloomberg is a selfish idiot!

This time, a Dem.President is going to have to send in the National Guard because another Dem. Mayor and Governor won’t. 7 years later, still dumb and dumber. It got the perps in Alabama re-elected. Wow.

I guess when you run the town as a police state and hand your officers a licensee to kill, they don’t need back up. A couple of shots take care of all your problems.

I wondered on my drive home why there were no National Guard boots on the ground. I thought it might have something to do with a Dem. Governor and a Pres. Obama supporting billionaire Mayor. The President said: “No one left behind”? This sounds like a Mayor who needs his left leaning behind put in jail, with no heat. Hypothermia from the cold in the Northeast is just as deadly as heat stroke in New Orleans. When is President Obama going to gain the guts and brains of his favorite Devil to blame – Pres. George W. Bush? Pres.Bush with Hurricane Katrina tried to give the Dem. Governor and Dem. Mayor a decent time to do the decent thing – when they failed, Pres. Bush did it for them. – he sent in the National Guard. Maybe if the Mayor and Governor apologize for a video, everything will be wonderful. Sad, sad, sad. Seriously – prayers and more for all in peril.

Right on, Bloomie. Bringing safety and order–not to mention food and water– is less important than keeping the police unions happy making mega overtime.
