There must be something bigger at work here.
Though the election ended more than a month ago a new Politico/George Washington University poll shows Mitt Romney‘s favorability/unfavorability rating: Both numbers are tied at 47 percent.
You’ll recall Romney was infamously caught on tape during the election at a fundraiser saying that “47 percent” of the country’s population is dependent on government. The line was also recently selected as the No. 1 quote of 2012 in the “Yale Book of Quotations.”

Dec. 10, 2012 at 9:53pmI blame the media for Obama’s win. People are so ignorant of Obama’s policies, its shocking. Most of them probably have no idea that so many are now enrolled in Govt assistance. They probably believe Romney’s remark was entirely callous, without a word of truth in it. We wouldn’t be where we are today were it not for the Obama media.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 7:58pmWow. Even a few years ago — long before this election campaign — I remember reading an article about how supposedly the number “47″ is the most random number there is ..or something like that. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/47_(number)
(For what’s it’s worth.)
Anyway… It won’t be long before Romney’s immortalized on that page.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 3:07pmGood. He should be remembered for it! One of the few who tell the truth. Well, it is actually 53% but I am willing to forgive a old fact vs the latest data.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 2:39pmThere are people not even on the radar that are dependent, I put it more than 50%. And was the one that recorded that talk ever charged for eavesdropping or invasion of privacy? Just saying. Maybe Axelrod set that up. Romneys valid point was, why would 47% of the people dependent on Obama, vote for me?

Dec. 10, 2012 at 8:20pmEXACTLY. All Mitt was saying was he couldn’t afford to waste his energies (strategically) to try to go after those votes when he had to lock in his base first. Talk about twisting the story. A story meant for a certain group and misconstrued to portray something entirely different. NO candidate, NO president is EVER going to please 100% of the people anyway. It’s statistically impossible. Even 50% is doing pretty good. This was a perfect piece of ammunition to lob at the uninformed voters. Well done, obama campaign. Well done.
And as for that eavesdropper? Lowlife. (Mother Jones as well. Ugh)

Dec. 10, 2012 at 8:38pmUnfortunately, too, I thought Mitt did a poor job of defending himself against this obnoxious meme attack. But I kept thinking over and over, what could he have said that would have made it better (in their eyes)? I don’t think there’s anything he could have said beyond what he did say (something like, “it didn’t come out right what I said”) Still; I kept wishing he’d explained himself better. Because WE all knew what he meant …
