In it’s staff editorial today USA Today addresses comments made by Papa Johns founder John Schnatter that the restaurant’s pizza prices would go up due to “Obamacare”:
“Yes, the employer mandate will add to some companies’ costs of doing business, and those costs no doubt will be passed along to customers. Papa John’s says the price of a pizza could increase 11 cents to 14 cents per pie. But is that such a terrible price to pay to ensure that some of the nation’s hardest working, lowest paid employees will get health coverage they’ve never had?”
Judgement on who should receive health insurance aside, has USA Today been inside a Papa Johns? The average worker is a 20-something kid with flour on his/her face who can’t seem to answer a customer phone call without sounding like a complete ass.
“Some of the nation’s hardest working” doesn’t necessarily mean “best working.” Just a thought.

Speaking of hard work — how hard would it be to spell “judgment” correctly?

Dec. 10, 2012 at 11:28pmno one has said how much each working person will pay for the health care. it’s not free. I can’t afford 11-14 on top of the tax, which will be at least $300 per month, then they will come up with another 25-30 extra for baby care, an extra 1.5 – 2.00 for elderly care, since they spent all of their money too, 5.00 school lunches, cause good food costs more and fat kids have to go to doctors.
it will go on and on and on until noone can make it without making $50,000 per year per person
AFFORDABLE MY “BUM”

Dec. 10, 2012 at 8:29pmSpeaking of sounding like an ass…have you talked to the headline writers at the Blaze? I refer to the myriad sensationalized headlines…..TSA Agent Shot and Killed at Airport was actually a domestic and the murdered party only happened to be TSA. Admittedly, many of those who work in the pizza industry lack experience but to jump on them was uncalled for.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 7:19pmI am confused why he would say 11 – 14 cents. Everything is always rounded. $9.99, $10.99, $11.99. It will go up a dollar.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 5:27pmEddie is one of those MORONS who thinks anyone working in retail or a restaurant should be looked down at and even spat upon.
I’ve worked in retail and restaurants all my life (I’m 49) and over 50% of “customers” are some of the rudest, snarkiest and idiotic on the planet. Now I own a retail business and it’s amazing the 100% “about face” you get from IDIOTS like “Eddie” when they realize they are talking to the OWNER of the establishment who won’t put up with their BS for 2 seconds, much less 3.
You treat me like S*** in MY business and you will be shown the door post haste… I don’t care WHO you are. I’ve had it with worthless pieces of Dog Doo like Eddie who OBVIOUSLY doesn’t know what the word WORK even means.
Right back at ya, PEON.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 11:33amWow Eddie, pretty rude take on young adults that are at least trying to make a living for themselves!!! Would you prefer them be on the government’s dole for everything? Feeling a little superior are you?!?

Dec. 10, 2012 at 4:53pmThat’s exactly how I read that. As someone only a couple years removed from working in a restaurant, I can attest to the fact that you are treated as subhuman by 50% of the customers, regardless of how nice you are. Success in this business is completely related to biting your tongue most of the time. Admittedly, you should not be an ass (I wasn’t, and it helped me move up to management), but it’s hard.
Something tells me ol’ Ed here falls into that condescending 50% when he visits an eatery.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 11:29amI wonder if it’s a regional thing.
I have our local Dominos on my speed-dial, and maybe three times in the two years they’ve been open have I ever wondered who in the world is taking my order. That staff is awesome, quick, and they make the best pizza around!
Maybe you should try another pizza joint, Eddie.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 11:26amA true Republican mindset–”Why should I have to pay 11 cents more for a pizza so that thousands of employees can get health insurance and not die?” Sigh.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 4:21pmBECAUSE IT”S MY 11 CENTS! I EARNED IT, I WANT TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH IT, NOT THE GOVERNMENT TO DECIDE FOR ME! Typical dem/lib mindset…”it’s just a few cents more, who does that hurt?” Yeah, well. it’s a few cents more for pizza, a few cents more for pop, a few cents more for each & every grocery item, a few cents more for a tax on this or a levy on that, a dollar or so more a gallon at the pump. It all adds up & before you know it, the gov’t is taking hundreds of dollars out of your pocket, so then you can’t buy pizza, pop, groceries the gas, etc. Or the iphone, the ipad, the latest greatest coach bag, since those are the things that seem to be important to people these days. And when people quit buying, those jobs close up. Apparently, you don’t get how those things are related. I’m frugal with my money…I buy second hand goods, we have older vehicles (12 & 6 yrs old), I have no ipad, iphone, etc. and my computer was built from spare parts. I do this so that I can choose what to do with my money, not the gov’t. BTW, no one DIES because they’re without insurance…the hospitals have to treat them when they go in…it’s already built into bills at the hospital…those of us with insurance THAT WE PAY FOR get billed higher so they can treat them. I’m 55, have worked since I was 14. It’s MY MONEY. I support myself & MY FAMILY, and I give to those causes that I CHOOSE, without the gov’ts help. I resent people such as yourself, who think we all need to pay for

Dec. 10, 2012 at 10:59amI do not claim them for raising their prices. If all businesses did the same—-maybe people would wake up. Maybe.

Dec. 10, 2012 at 12:55pmOr, people would, more than likely, just agree to pay it and agree that it’s a necessary cost to provide healthcare to most everyone. Thank god for Obamacare.
