Penn Jillette: Jon Stewart ‘biting’ Bill O’Reilly ‘in the butt’ in ‘war on Christmas’
In CNN.com, comedian and culture commentator Penn Jillette wishes everyone a “merry atheist Christmas.”
He also takes Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly to task over the so-called “war on Christmas.” Jillette writes:
Bill O’Reilly talks about atheists and left-wing loons ruining Christmas for children.
He also says that Christianity is a philosophy, which might have seemed like a sleek move on live TV, but … I’m thinking he’s noticed by now Jon Stewart is biting him in the butt.
O’Reilly finds evidence for the war in atheist groups opposing Nativity scenes on government property and their discomfort with public school students having to opt out when their classes go to a church to see a Charlie Brown Christmas play. Bill is also ticked off by businesses urging their employees to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” He doesn’t want the holidays turned secular. He wants his Christmas pure. Pure as the Christian philosophy. But he could learn strategy to win the war on Christmas from the Monkees and their ’60s TV show. They’re on a reunion tour (sadly without Davy Jones, but miraculously with Mike Nesmith.) …
Think about it, Bill. Many people wanted to keep rock ‘n’ roll pure. Hardcore fans scoffed at the Monkees. They wanted to ensure electric guitars were only for rebels, but the Monkees got the feeling and beat out there to the children.
Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart famously mocked Fox News for its “war on Christmas” coverage earlier this month.

Posted on December 21, 2012 at 3:58pmMerry Christmas to all of Gods children!
If someone says happy Hanukkah to me, I say thank you and have a happy new year. My response would be the same to any similar greeting. To be offended by a gesture of kindness given out of the love in someones heart could only come from someone who goes thru life expecting to be offended. I have nothing but sorrow for such a lost soul.

Posted on December 17, 2012 at 3:18pmI have nothing against Christmas, and I’m certainly not trying to kill it, but for those of us who don’t celebrate the holiday, it is a nice gesture to say Happy Holidays or to replace nativity scenes with less religious-based decoration. So in the spirit of all those ’80s big-****-celebrity-rockers-for-a-cause videos, perhaps this will help O’Reilly et al remember, “Don’t They Know (Not Everyone Does Christmas)?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnkbdF4gLAg

Posted on December 15, 2012 at 11:44amI hope Mr. O’Reilly won’t object to me wishing my friends and acquaintances “Happy Holidays” — so as to include them all…
I never know how to respond to my Jewish friends — when they wish me a “Happy Chanukah” — s it appropriate to respond with the same wish — when it’s obvious to those who know me that I don’t share their religious tradition?

Posted on December 13, 2012 at 3:34pmI used to give him a little leeway but since his two rants on the Christmas season and the way he compares ‘this to that’ I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s just as loony as the rest of the loons.

Posted on December 13, 2012 at 3:11pmIs the holiday Christmas??…if so then why call it by any other name.(happy holiday)..it is what it is…I get the idea of not spending fed money on Christmas and we as americans need to understand that this holiday (religon) that some Americans want to be rid of is a HUGE part of what makes America what it is.There are radicals on both sides of this and it is important not to forget where we come from.To deny that the teachings of God did not play a large factor in the design of this country would be incorrect. In my opinion it a tragedy to deny Christ but if one is inclined to do so then so be it.It does not make one less of a person just ill equiped for eternity in my opinion. There is a war…not just on Christmas but on Christ..there has always been one and always will be..I just hope for the sake of my children that here in this great country of liberty there is no punishment (being told where and how they can worship or how their God has to be PC or worse) for the love of the Great Redeemer.
