On The O’Reilly Factor tonight, media critic Bernie Goldberg called out Fox News for giving conservative commentators a platform to politicize the Sandy Hook shooting.

Goldberg began by criticizing NBC’s Andrea Mitchell who, immediately after the shooting, described a need for “reasonable” gun regulation.

“But conservative media also used the tragedy and the media to further their agenda,” Goldberg said. “I’ll give you two examples. There was talk about how we took God out of the classroom so we shouldn’t be surprised when there’s carnage in the schools. There was talk about how we have a million abortions a year which cheapens life and that somehow this is related to what happened. … As if an insane gunman — an insane, mentally unstable gunman — cares about God in the classroom or abortion. We know he doesn’t.”

Host Bill O’Reilly jumped in. “It certainly didn’t happen on the Fox News Channel,” he said. “I didn’t see it.”

“Yes it did,” Goldberg replied. “Yes it did. Yeah. It happened on the Fox News Channel.”

O’Reilly  asked if Goldberg’s observation of Fox was “front and center,” noting that “it didn’t happen on this program.”

Goldberg said there was “more of it on the left” than on Fox News.

Indeed, shortly after the shooting on Friday, Fox News’ own Mike Huckabee said on the network: “We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools.”
