Two-fer from Post writer: Let government ‘buy back’ guns to stimulate economy and lessen violence

One big reason that conservatives are so pro-Second Amendment goes over the head of many in the news media. Conservatives don’t want to keep their guns just because “AMERICA!” They’re so gun happy because many of them have a fundamental distrust in the government. Or at least an omnipresent skepticism of a government that has guns while citizens do not.

It certainly went over the head of Matt Miller, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and weekly columnist for the Washington Post.

He writes today:

[I]magine a $100 billion, one-time program aimed at buying back 200 million firearms at $500 a pop. We issue the payments in prepaid credit cards that expire in three months … to be sure the money is spent fast.

Presto! So long as the federal money is borrowed, we get an immediate boost to demand, jobs and growth. And with long-term interest rates at all-time lows, there’s never been a better time for the feds to overpay gun owners and get these weapons out of circulation. The president can even pitch selling a gun to Uncle Sam as a patriotic act β€” part of a national rethinking of our gun culture in the wake of Newtown.

Sure. Conservatives, many of them wary of a powerful government, will sell their guns for a $500 gift card. Presto.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I have several guns that cost about a hundred fifty bucks each. I will sell them for the 500 bucks each, and then use the money to buy even more guns. Love how this works!

Let see, do we have any guns that we value for less than $500? There is my husband’s old .410 that he gave to our son a few years ago, (which was given to my husband as a young boy years ago, by his father). It was recently reblued, refinished and refurbished, and the work cost more that the initial market value of the gun. That gun never shot more that old tin cans, old oranges from the grove, and fast moving squirrels. No, the memories far exceed the value of a $500 stimulus card that you finance school dropouts propose – BTW a proposal that makes Bernie Madoff look like a man of impeccable virtue.

This exact thing was done in Australia. Look were they are today. A socialist nation in fear of their government and a country with out guns! This has been done before.

My rights are granted to me by GOD not government. You can’t put a dollar figure on those rights.

I have two pistols and a shotgun with a damaged stock that I need to offload so I can go buy a couple new guns. Sounds good to me.

Yeah I have some broken guns that don’t work and got for free. I just take that $500 per and buy the guns I really want functioning and “SEMI-autoloading” varmint hunting rifles. I can get a lot of Ruger 10/22 and ammo for the $1,000 in buyback money.
Remember the “Cash for Clunkers” program and how well that worked??? People found wrecks and bought gas guzzlers anyway…

I wouldn’t sell any of my long guns or pistols. $500.00 is ridiculouslylow. All my guns are worth more then that. Well actually I do have one 32 relover that I’d sell for that price.

Leave it to libs to figure out a way to screw up a one car parade. They would get guns valued at less than $500 that probably don’t work anyway. I cannot imagine anyone would sell THEIR guns. Aagin, given the propensity for the liberals to come up with programs that are more feel-good than effective I doubt anyone is surprised.
