Posted on December 19, 2012 at 10:18amWhen teens started commiting suicide at exponentially higher rates due to cyber bullying Government didn’t act to ban facebook (nor should they)… instead they moved to pass laws that punish people who participate in those desctructive acts. The punishment follows the act, the tool that was used to humiliate the teens into suicide was not held responsible or banned. Laws that supposedly limit our freedom of speech are really only deterents, they do not remove our choice or our ability to perform illegal and devistating actions.

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 3:21pmOne big problem in his argument… Freedom of speech is only non-absolute when you use your freedom of speech to infringe on someone elses freedoms or well being. Just because it is illegal to yell fire in a crowded theater or libel another person doesn’t give the Government the right to rip out your vocal cord or take away your computer. It’s not the harm you could potentially do but what you acctually do with your freedoms. And when you do misuse your freedom (to say damaging things or post disgusting photos of innocent children online) there are lawful punishments for your crimes. Likewise there are lawful punishments for people who misuse their freedom of owning firearms to mow down innocent people in cold blood.
There are no rights are being infringed or lives being threatened by a lawful citizen simply owning a scary looking gun. Just as there are not rights or lives being threatened by my ability to speak or use a computer! Damn this is frustrating!
