A New York health clinic is celebrating the season of giving… by handing out needles and condoms to residents of the Bronx.
CitiWide Harm Reduction (CitiWide) was founded in 1995 by AIDS activist and drug user Brian Weil to “reduce harm” in the largely Puerto Rican and African America community battle high rates of poverty, drug abuse and infectious diseases. Less than a year after its founding, however, Weil died of a heroin overdose and the group limped on, expanding the scope of its mission ever since, including the addition of programs for sex workers.
This Christmas, CitiWide is advertising its needle-exchange program that offers drug users clean needles and other products to help combat HIV and hepatitis. On its website, the publicly funded organization posted this video of Jolly Old St. Nick delivering holiday goodies like syringes, condoms and overdose response kits.
Warning: Video is (morally) disturbing.
There’s something so wrong about finding someone living on the street, shooting up drugs and “helping” them by… handing them a new needle.
Oh, but he’ll be ok because he now has chocolate-flavored lube! Si se puede!

Dec. 23, 2012 at 9:06pmThese comments sound like people who don’t have the faintest idea about what it’s like to be an addict or have a family member of friend who is an addict. This man is a better Christian than any of you, more Christ like than any of you and that’s for damn sure.
For any of you to demean the selfless acts of someone who is trying to prevent life-threatening diseases by saying it’s a moral failure to provide those things… That’s just a statement from one who has no idea, which… Again, coming from this website is not a surprise at all.

Dec. 24, 2012 at 12:26pmNot only are they contributing to the eventual death of these people by helping them take killer drugs, these “clean needles” they are handing out are only clean once. They are sure to be reused just like the ones they get from any other source. What makes anybody think that charitable needles are going to be used once and disposed of properly.

Dec. 23, 2012 at 2:49pmThis is nothing more than encouraging people that should be committed, to go out enjoy and recruit the public. Commit them and let aides do its job.

Dec. 22, 2012 at 11:19pmI believe that t is absolutely disgusting to contribute to someones death in this way. He is not helping these people in the least by doing this. If anything he should be attempting to try and get these people in some type of program instead of enabling them to do drugs. The Bible tells us that if we cause our brother to stumble, we will be held accountable for our actions. I believe this guy is very naughty.
