GOP tries to defund Planned Parenthood… again
It’s a topic that comes up in every Congress. So as the 113th Congress kicks off this week, it should come as no surprise that a bill to revoke abortion provider Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding has been re-introduced in the House of Representatives.
Thank you, Rep. Marsha Blackburn:
Rep. Marsha Blackburn, a Tennessee Republican, is picking up the Planned parenthood de-funding mantle from former Congressman Mike Pence, who was elected as Indianaβs governor and was the prime sponsor of the bill House Republicans approved and Senate Democrats defeated.
Blackburn informed LifeNews today that she has introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 61), which would stop the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from providing federal family planning assistance under Title X to abortion businesses until they certify they wonβt provide and refer for abortions. …
βCongressman Pence has been a champion in the fight to protect innocent human life and I hope to continue his leadership in the House,β Blackburn said. βAs a woman, I believe America deserves better than abortion. America shouldnβt celebrate abortion and our taxpayers shouldnβt subsidize abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, who profit from the destruction of human life with taxpayer money. Itβs fiscally irresponsible and morally indefensible.β
Blackburn serves as vice chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee which oversees Title X legislation. Β Title X’s family planning program grants the abortion provider hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
Blackburn’s bill will likely pass through the House of Representatives, but with a Democratic majority in the Senate, isn’t likely to reach the president’s desk again this year.

Posted on January 7, 2013 at 12:59amWe should just redefine “fetus” as “welfare baby” and the Democrats won’t be able to pass it fast enough.

Posted on January 5, 2013 at 7:29pmIt will never make it through the senate unless they attach it to a bill funding cable tv for endangered sea turtles.

Why not waste time passing an empty, symbolic bill instead of working on real problems that need to be dealt with?

Posted on January 5, 2013 at 9:57amWe would not be discussing abortion if the laws made sense. 1. In the case of pregnancy out of wedlock where both parties consented to the act, NO abortions allowed for the sake of convenience of either party; BOTH parties and ONLY both parties, are responsible for the health and welfare of the child , and in the case of adoption, both parties are to anonymously share the expenses of the adoptive parents until the child turns 18- period. 2. If a fetus should be the creation of a rape or incest, why should the fetus pay for itβs innocence with the loss of itβs life? It would be better to force the criminal to pay into an anonymous fund to support the child until it is 18, whether or not itβs adopted, and if the child is aborted for the sake of the motherβs life due to injuries suffered during the commission of the crime, the criminal should be charged with murder.
Makes more sense to have the criminal pay for his crime than to have an innocent fetus killed.

Posted on January 5, 2013 at 7:07amThe House should simply vote to stop Planned Parenthood’s tax exemption. PP is TAX EXEMPT, and that’s wrong – they make a huge profit as a retailer so (never mind that their overwhelmingly main product is abortions) they should lose their tax exempt status and help fund the governement.
In this day of falling tax revenues, asking for them to “pay their fair share” should be a no-brainer.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 6:59pmIf she is pushing to de-fund abortion, is she linking that with additional funding to care for, the health problems associated with the pregnancies that were to be terminated as a result of a genetic test that showed abnormalities the parent(s) did not feel equipped to handle? What does she propose to do with all the babies? Give them to loving adoptive parents? Adoptive parents don’t usually want kids with serious health issues, or a poor prognosis. How many people want to adopt a kid who will drain their bank accounts and die young, or a healthy vegetable that will always be a burden and never grow up?
Some parents can’t cope financially, others can’t handle the strain emotionally. There is no day off. No one will admit that they fear going off the deep end and becoming abusive or worse, but humans have limits and those limits are not the same for everyone. Some people are stronger or have more emotional and social support. Some are weaker. Laws can’t change that.
If you are going to defund abortions you must pay for the care of the children too.
