Harry Reid downplays Katrina in bid for Sandy relief

I’m sure Hurricane Harry Reid’s work with the White House to pass a pork-laden relief package for Sandy victims has nothing to do with his comments, but the Senate Majority Leader’s remarks are incredibly troubling:

Comparing disasters is probably never a good idea because regardless of the size it’s a travesty for those directly affected. Therefore, it was surprising, as well as factually incorrect, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Friday took to the Senate floor and declared that Hurricane Katrina was “nothing in comparison to what happened to the people in New York and New Jersey” from Hurricane Sandy.

That’s some easy craziness to unload on the floor of the United States Senate. Β I’d love to see Reid deliver those same comments in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Sure, Sandy brought about devastation in one of the country’s most-populated urban centers, killing 120 and causing over $80 billion in damage. Β But how can you even compare Sandy to Katrina, a storm that killed more than 1,830 and caused more than $145 billion in damage?

Where the hell is Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and all the others who railed so heavily about Katrina when it happened? Why is it that because a DEMOCRAT says something like this it appears to be tollerable among the black communities, but if a Conservative says it, they’re ready unleash all hell on the streets of America. You blacks are being used to the fullest by the white democrat leaders to further their cause and you’re obviously too stupid to admit it or realize it. Get a friggin’ clue will you? The democrats are not your friends and buddies, they’re your slave handlers.

I just sent an email and called his Washington office. Here’s what I said:
I am writing to express my disgust with your comments comparing the effects of Katrina and Sandy saying that Katrina “was nothing in comparison to Sandy.” You must be aware that more that 1800, that is more than ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED Americans, died here!!! Your comparison is grossly innapropriate. They were both tragedies, but incomparable. You are a disgrace and owe us an apology!

Clearly, the suffering and DEATHS of those with darker skin is less important to Reid than the suffering of lighter-skinned people.
