Dem Rep: Women should serve in combat, but shouldn’t use assault weapons

On the very same day that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women serving in active combat zones, a Democratic congresswoman from New York argued that assault weapons are actually difficult for women to handle and should therefore be banned.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy — a strong proponent for women serving in military combat roles — appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday to make the case for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban. To that end, McCarthy argued that women should use traditional rifles rather than assault rifles because the former would would be “easier for a woman” to use.

PIERS MORGAN: I have an interview coming up with two young women who wrote a piece in which they said they wanted the rights of the AR-15 weapon at home because they feared they would be attacked and they wanted a gun that would guarantee they would murder or would kill their attacker. How do you respond to that particular argument, which is they believe under their second amendment right they should be allowed an AR-15?

CAROLYN MCCARTHY: I will tell you, if you talk to professionals, hunters and certainly sportsmen, they’ll tell you that’s not the gun to use. A rifle is more accurate. It’s certainly easier for a woman to be able to do that.

If this were actually true, McCarthy would seem to be admitting that there are limitations on what women can do in a combat position and perhaps the Defense Department’s ban should stand. More than likely, though, is that McCarthy is using gender-based arguments to try and bolster her stance against assault rifles. In other words, it’s…

A full auto weapon is hard to handle in any ones hands, but that is what they teach (Fire for effect not accuracy). Spray out 30 rounds you might hit 1 bad guy. Good for the reports. Take a little time and fire 30 rounds and hit 15 bad guys and you are hot dogging. Go figure.

Wow, I saw female soldiers, mostly MPs putting a s**t load of fire down range on multiple occasions in both theaters and they killed some bad guys, so we must have had abnormal females in our AO. We were the QRF several times when MPs were in contact. The women did an outstanding job “handling” those M4s, SAWs…240s and Ma-Duece…so I’m not sure what rifle would have been easier to deal with…the M14 maybe? I saw one female with an M21 (sniper version of the M14) and she was a designated marksman in the MP platoon. She would not have been in that position if she wasn’t a steely eyed gunman.

The only people who are bigger idiots than Rep McCarthy are the fools who keep re-electing her.

  If I remember correctly her husband was killed by mentally deranged man on the LI railroad and out of sympathy the Democrats elected her. She had no experience at the time and it appears she hasn’t learned much in the last 15 or so years. Another example of voting for someone for the wrong reason.

Sporting rifles vs assault rifles (public ownership vs the ones in the military)… Sadly Rep. Carolyn McCarthy has a following because she (like Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi) gets reelected. If you use YouTube and watch any of those four you will experience (as folks have noted here) ‘mind numbing’ ignorance, inability to coherently discuss issues (with talking points in front of ‘em) and a lack of drawing valid conclusions based on a process of deduction. They often use the inductive method. That is, “oh, a crime has been committed, a gun was involved… any gun owner will commit a crime’. Similarly… (and inaccurately) , firearms are used in combat, women will be in combat, firearms will be used by women, women are small so they need a small firearm, assault (rifles) weapons are too big, rifles are smaller (doh!?)… and so forth. Their lack of intellect, investigative honesty and shallow interests lead them to the wrong conclusions time and time again… and Citizens pay the price (and their salaries).
There are some bright people in Government… but I don’t see a majority AND I do see (unabashedly) most of the dunderheads are liberal in the mindsets and agenda. However “bad people” often don’t need brains, just the support of foolish voters to wit Obama and the previously mentioned mental midgets. Then we have ‘bad intentions’ made into laws which again penalize “Honest Citizens.” Will it stop?

Women in combat won’t be using assault weapons as it’s a meaningless term created by the gun bigots to scare the gun illiterate. Women in combat will be using assault rifles, a term which has a meaning and are a class of firearms far more easy to control and use than a ‘traditional rifle.’

That cow has been agitating to get women the equal opportunity to die, without ever having served herself, for a couple of decades now and still does not understand the very basics of the military. She has no business being involved in matters of national security.

As dumb as this representative is, it is misleading in this article to put a headline that strongly implies that she exactly said that “Omen should serve in combat, but shouldn’t use assault weapons”. Instead, she made these two separate points in two separate conversations, not together. I’m a big conservative/libertarian and big fan of The Blaze, but this kind of headline reporting by The Blaze is disingenuous.

I quit…I give up..I now see there no longer is hope for this country; with a government entreanched with idiots.
This(I won’t say our anymore; that would would mean I would agree with the insanity of these people)country is on it last legs.
And just looking for the right one to kick them;one time real hard; and as she falls; they’ll be grinning from ear to ear.
I just don’t care anymore; I am to old and too sick to even care anymore…it is a hopeless task; and I beg God to end it quickly..

  OMG! What is wrong with you guys?!?! Seriosly, I see problems everywhere, inevitable doom, but what you dont see is the uprising in the making. I see it. You should be more hopeful about life. When the jews were dying in concentration camps the ones who lived were the ones most hopeful. Their bodies faught starvation and sikness harder because their brain ordered them too. Cancerman, if your so sick talk to me. Ive failed to help nobody so far who was willing to put in the work necessary to take control of getting better themselves. Trust government controlled medicine and your much more likely to get screwed. Seriously, hope is alive and well in America today, but the ones lacking hope will not even see it when things start turning around. Sometimes it takes getting to the dumps before a nation realizes its going the wrong way. I know this from person experience in my own life.
  On another note I LOVE AR-15, by far the EASIEST GUN FOR ME TO USE! I’ve tried MANY guns and I ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST AIM WITH AN AR-15! I’m a 23 year old female!

First off, lets stop calling them assault rifles. A gun/ weapon is whatever you use it for. If it is an assault rifle, then you are assaulting someone. It is a weapon! Weapons are used to defend. As in Defending the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic! Secondly, if the standards for women aren’t changed to match those that the men in say, the Infantry, then there will be no Esprit De Corps, no Camaraderie, no Team Work, no Respect, and no Discipline! She must be able to meet PT standards as he does. She must be able to hump a M240 MG with 70 lbs of kit on, as he has to! She must be able to charge a M2 HB .50 to load, fire, and apply immediate action as he does!

Can someone please tell McCarthy to STFU until she gets a clue? The militaries around the world went to assault rifles because they are EASIER to use than the old fashioned bolt action ones. They use intermediate power cartridges, and because of the springs used to operate the action, they have reduced recoil. McCarthy et al prove that lack of knowledge on a topic doesn’t preclude a liar from trying to tell people that they are experts and therefore should be allowed to dictate to people how to live their lives, McCarthy only ran for Congress because her (disarmed by law) husband was the victim of a mass shooting on a commuter train by a man who didn’t care that he was breaking the law by using a weapon that the politicians said were illegal.

  As a 23 year old female, an AR15 so far is the EASIEST gun I’ve ever used and I PREFER IT for home protection because its easier to aim, shoot, load…etc. Don’t pay attention to liberals. Their picking on it because IT WORKS WELL, and liberals hate everything that works well.

First, an AR15 is a rifle. If this poor excuse of a person had ever fired a M16 she would know there is very little recoil. It is light and easy to carry. While I don’t have an AR15, I figure the recoil is near the same as a M16.

Great way to mix the two topics, what a bunch of malarkey. Assualt rifles issued to female soldiers in the military use a mild cartidge not some high powered round. A typical bolt action rifle is way more powerful and some women heck even men cannot fire them, they are brutal. AR15 semi auto sport rifles happen to use the same moderate round and a weaker round also (5.56mm more power, .223 cal is weaker) as the M16/M4 assualt rifles. They use a moderate powered round because of the laws of war said 30 cal bullets are too brutal, also the 5.56 is weaker and thus easier on the mechanics of the rifle and just happens to be nothing more than a powerful 22 caliber round, very little recoil.,
This round was also picked because Americans have forgotten how to shoot and new recruits can master it quicker and carry more ammo. Bah, preaching to the choir here.

Way to mix together two different issues. And yes, McCarthy is an idiot. But keep the two stories apart. Women in the military is one thing. Assault weapon ban is another.

There’s nothing in the gun control debate about women and assault weapons. And McCarthy was right on one thing, assault weapons are not your best bet in a personal attack.

Lots of countries have women in combat and very successfully (none of this ******** about being able to handle the weapons – they can). I hope this doesn’t devolve into some stupidity like women who are in combat don’t want to be there. If they choose it, just like men do, they have to perform.
