Dem Senator: What spending problem?!

Great news, everyone. Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin is joining President Obama and other fellow Democrats to declare that America is abundantly wealthy and that there’s no actual need to cut government spending. Wahoo:

First of all, I want to disagree with those who say we have a spending problem. Everyone keeps saying we have a spending problem. And when they talk about that, it’s like there’s an assumption that somehow we as a nation are broke. We can’t afford these things any longer. We’re too broke to invest in education and housing and things like that. Well look at it this way, we’re the richest nation in the history of the world. We are now the richest nation in the world. We have the highest per capita income of any major nation. That kind of begs the question, doesn’t it? If we’re so rich, why are we so broke? Is it a spending problem? No.

Like his progressive buddies, Sen. Harkin seems to think that all the wealth in the United States belongs to the United States, not the individual producers and consumers who actually generate it.  How comforting.

“We have the highest per capita income of any major nation.”

Sorry to burst your bubble but we do not! In GDP per capita the United States is the 7th richest country.

    The top 10:

    1. Qatar
    2. Luxembourg
    3. Singapore
    4. Norway
    5. Brunei
    6. Hong Kong
    7. United States
    8. UAE
    9. Switzerland
    10. Netherlands

Well– He is welcome to PAY HIS FAIR SHARE anytime. If debt is nothing to sweat, why doesn’t he give everything HE makes for the year to the Government. THAT would be one way to make his point.
He’s the one who spent it by the way. Fair is fair. Hus actual share would be his entire income for 20 years running. That is how many years of our entire GDP it would take to pay off our current debt.
Lead follow or get out of the way chump!
