Obama’s DOJ admits assault weapons ban won’t cut violence
Despite his own Department of Justice’s research, President Barack Obama is moving forward with gun control plans, including limits on so-called assault weapons. The DOJ’s research memo was obtained and published by the National Rifle Association.
The National Review’s Eliana Johnson offers some details:
Prepared by the National Institute of Justice, the research arm of the Justice Department, the report concludes that an assault-weapons ban is “unlikely to have an impact on gun violence” because such weapons are not a major contributor to gun crime in the United States. However, the memo notes that “if coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions then it could be effective.” Although the Obama administration and some congressional Democrats are currently pushing for a ban on assault weapons, they are not proposing a program of mandatory gun buybacks.
Authored by NIJ deputy directory Greg Ridgeway and titled “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies” the memo states that the efficacy of universal background checks is limited by the fact that most crime weapons are obtained through straw purchasers (47 percent of the total) and theft (26 percent). In order to meaningfully reduce gun crime, Ridgeway argues, law-enforcement measures must target straw purchasers and require the registration of firearms. He proposes the creation of a system by which gun transfers can occur with federal oversight, but also with relative ease.
The NRA has a new ad out comparing the Obama administration’s research with its policy proposals:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. And yet he persists in trying to ban weapons, mostly weapons that can be used to resist the tyranny of a rogue government. Now why would he do that?
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Barack Obama is a liar, a cheat, a thief and an enemy of the United States of America.
Glenn has this one wrong when he tells people to let them arrest you and fight them in the courts. Sorry Glenn, but once they arrest you, they take your guns and no matter what the outcome, you never get them back, mission accomplished, you are disarmed.
Instead, you fight them in the streets, yes people are going to die, that is the price of freedom. Things have gone too far now and civil war is guaranteed. Anyone who thinks that they can sit it out or otherwise avoid this catastrophe is a fool. Kill the first man through the door and the second if you can, kill enough of them when they come to confiscate and they will run out of volunteers to knock on doors. At the very least, no one will be wiling to go first through the next door. Many areas of the country will do this, some will not, either way the chaos of civil war will engulf the entire nation. We are better off fighting them before their plans are complete.
Many of you are too squeamish to even hear this but it is what must be done to stop this tyranny.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 10:53amHaving Obama’s “Justice” Department disagree with Obama’s “Gun Grab Plan” of legal firearms from law abiding citizens is ” just another bump in the road ” to TYRANNY. Impeachment should have taken place years ago.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 8:21amOkay. Can we get something straight?
Whether it is local, state, or federal government……they do not have the right to use our tax dollars to buy back guns.
Anyone who is elected, should know this to be true.

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 9:28pmThis just proves one thing: The progressives’ goal to ban assault weapons has absolutely nothing to do with cutting down crime. Crime is the smoke screen. The ultimate goal behind this is to rid of any weapon that can be used against the State.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 10:36amI agree….. their goal is not weapon bans, or regualtions… it’s eventual weapons confiscation… the disarming of the American citizen to make them, let’s say, more manageable. It’s reality when you declaw a cat they’re more manageable. America is being taken down systimatically and Americans are submitting to it like a herd of penned up cattle without a fight. Just exactly what the liberal, socialist/communist democrat party was hoping would happen. Then there’s all their little “USEFUL IDIOT” followers mooing right behind them.

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 7:05pmYes, but they “can’t take the risk” of having these weapons or magazines in the hands of law-abiding citizens.
In a related story, Governor Jerry Brown released 377 convicted murders from California prisons. Supporters argued “they must take the risk” of repeat murders in order to give these folks a “second chance”.
Law-abiding citizens… Convicted murderers with a proven track record. OK. Libs choose to trust the convicted murders.
