NYTimes: middle class tax increase ‘necessary’

President Obama campaigned on raising the tax rate for the “top 2 percent” of income earners.

The New York Times editorializes today that eventually, the government will need to tap into the middle income earners as well:

To reduce the deficit in a weak economy, new taxes on high-income Americans are a matter of necessity and fairness; they are also a necessary precondition to what in time will have to be tax increases on the middle class. …

Raising taxes at the top is neither punitive nor gratuitous. It is a needed step, both to achieve near-term budget goals and to lay the foundation for a healthy budget in the future. As the economy strengthens and the population ages, more taxes will be needed from further down the income scale, both to meet foreseeable commitments, especially health care, as well as unforeseeable developments, from wars to technological challenges. But there will never be a consensus for more taxes from the middle class without imposing higher taxes on wealthy Americans, who have enjoyed low taxes for a long time.

To fund Obama’s “fundamental transformation of America”, of course taxes on the middle class must be raised. A 100% tax on the rich won’t fund it so the money has to come from somewhere. Far too many people foolishly misunderstand that fighting taxes on the rich was only one battle, it wasn’t the war itself. After losing that tax battle, there WILL be more. Prior to the passing of taxes on the rich with many people saying, “So what. Taxing them won’t hurt me.” I kept posting on various web discussions challenging those fools telling them that will not be the end of the tax hikes. It is only one battle. They will be coming after us too should the tax hike on the rich battle be lost. They have to if spending isn’t cut (which it won’t be). It is just math, as Obama likes to say.

I am middle class, and each year my federal taxes amount to the cost of a new car. The IRS is my single largest expense. I stopped working full time because, due to other sources of income, I was working two days of each week purely to feed Washington D.C.’s hunger for money. I knew the politicians were only using this money to redistribute in such a way to ensure their remaining in power, and on the public dole themselves.

Let them raise my taxes. I will work less than I already do for dollars, utilize the time to increase my independence from the economic system, and watch as the productive sector of society, from which the feds feed like a parasite, shrinks even further. What extra dollars I do make will go towards acquiring real assets that have no third party risk, and that the fed will have no claim to. Bring it.

I am the middle class. Our spirit is being broken everyday. God did not make us all the same for a reason. Since I have been alive, everyone has had the same opportunity, However some people rather sit back and let others do the work. I am pissed and I am tired of people taking advantage! The Dictator is trying to take over, but I think he is underestimating us!!!
