Bob Woodward blames Politico for ‘threat’ controversy

Washington spent an entire day yesterday debating whether famed journalist Bob Woodward was actually “threatened” by White House official Gene Sperling. Last night on Fox News, Woodward cleared the air, telling Sean Hannity that no, he didn’t feel actually threatened.

And in an interview with the Washington Post, he blamed Politico for the word even coming up:

Woodward said he stands by the idea that Sperling’s language was over the line but stops short of suggesting outright intimidation. “I never characterized it as a ‘threat,’ ” he said. “I think that was Politico’s word. I said I think [Sperling’s] language is unfortunate, and I don’t think it’s the way to operate. . . . [Sperling’s] language speaks for itself. I don’t think that’s the way to operate.”

“Threatened” was actually the word used by… CNN’s Wolf Blitzer in an interview with Woodward Wednesday, a characterization of an email from Sperling that Woodward didn’t dispute then or in subsequent interviews with Politico.

It is interesting to note that 0 was elected Nov 2008. The same month of the 30th anniversary of the mass suicide of the Marxist followers of cult leader Jim Jones. David Conn, author of “The Specific Density of Scientists” followed the rise of Jim Jones in the San Francisco area for 8 years. In 1972 he met Lester Kinsolving. Lester saw through Jim Jones and almost instantly knew it for what it was. “Lester was the wisest and most trustworthy journalist of them all. His analytical skills combined with a flawless frame of reference. Within a month, Kinsolving had a series of articles ready to go. The San Francisco Examiner went with 4 of them. It was then that Jim Jones and his cult landed on the newspaper, like vultures on a fresh carcass. Jones had harnessed hundreds of his members and surrounded the Examiner office. Jones, with a large cadre of his San Francisco politicians and New Age clergy to defend him threatened a Big law suit.
