Big Brother just got a lot creepier:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has customized its Predator drones, originally built for overseas military operations, to carry out at-home surveillance tasks that have civil libertarians worried: identifying civilians carrying guns and tracking their cell phones, government documents show.
The documents provide more details about the surveillance capabilities of the department’s unmanned Predator B drones, which are primarily used to patrol the United States’ northern and southern borders but have been pressed into service on behalf of a growing number of law enforcement agencies including the FBI, the Secret Service, the Texas Rangers, and local police.
Homeland Security’s specifications for its drones, built by San Diego-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, say they “shall be capable of identifying a standing human being at night as likely armed or not,” meaning carrying a shotgun or rifle. They also specify “signals interception” technology that can capture communications in the frequency ranges used by mobile phones, and “direction finding” technology that can identify the locations of mobile devices or two-way radios.

Mar. 7, 2013 at 9:26pmYou are NOT going to hit one of those with a gun.
Now maybe focused microwaves or some other jamming signal that would interrupt the link. But I am sure there are redundancies galore.

Mar. 6, 2013 at 2:29pmOne thing we can do to keep from being disarmed is to encourage our respective States to create a safe environment for the building of Gun and Ammunition manufacturing in every State. If each State makes and sells their guns and ammo FOR ONLY the Citizens of that State, the Fed Government has NO standing. They can’t ban ANYTHING unless the State tries to EXPORT their product out of State. Worth considering.

Mar. 6, 2013 at 1:04pmThe Apocalypse is not a literal rising of the multi-headed beast and the four horsemen; it is the establishment of social and the subsequent political conditions that allow tyrants like Obama and Chavez to run amok. These beasts devour civil liberties, homes, families and communities by speaking sweetly into the ears of those citizens who seek ease, wealth and power. The outcome is death and destruction by our own hand for not paying attention and following the principles that made us (and every other previous society) strong. We are in crisis and , as always, it is up to the few to save the many at great cost. If we had a sense of morality as a nation, this dictator would never have been allowed to speak. Has he not promised the golden calf to the people? And have we not behaved as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah? We are at a crisis. Further travel into financial insolvency and abrogation of State’s rights might just qualify for an Apocalypse.

Mar. 6, 2013 at 1:59pmSodom and Gomorrah indeed. And when not one righteous person was found there, Lot & his family left and the city was destroyed. We are at a crossroads. Choose wisely.

Mar. 5, 2013 at 3:47pmListen Up please. Obama tried to spark violent uprisings by poking the tea party but it didn’t work. Then he tried using Occupy Wallstreet to get the violence started, but it didn’t work. Francis Fox Piven even asked said she didn’t understand why the people wouldn’t riot in the streets. Obama wants us to rise up for some reason. Perhaps he will have the justification he needs to declare an emergency and inact martial law and drone attacks. Perhaps he can bring in the UN to keep the peace. I’m not sure, but the SOB wants us to use violence. We must keep calm, ban together, and help each other. We must stand but we must stand in peace. Remember the examples of Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Jesus.

Mar. 6, 2013 at 2:19pmCivil Violence would be a PRIME excuse to invoke Martial Law. THAT would also bring on gun confiscation as a NECESSITY. So PEOPLE-Hold your mud-we HAVE to beat this Tyrant legally, and I believe it CAN be done. The biggest issue will prove to be getting anything past the Supreme Court, whom the alleged president has worked hard to stack against America’s best interests.

Mar. 5, 2013 at 12:42pmThis is stated to be a way of protecting our borders from armed invasion, and perhaps drug cartels. Are we concerned that the “Fast and Furious” guns will come back across our border? If the drones were protecting us from foreign enemies, shouldn’t they also recognize IEDs, WMDs, or large amounts of fertilizer, etc.? I hope they are used to recognize possible hidden stuff, rather than shoot people down before knowing for sure. What about ranchers who live near the border who feel they have to carry a rifle when they go out on the range for their own safety, especially with so many crossing the border illegally? Do they have facial recognition?
