DEFCON 1: There’s a reason for all of this anti-gun paranoia

Yesterday I half-joked about the extreme reactions people are having across the country to anything remotely linked to guns or violence. But if you thought a Pennsylvania school shut-down after a mistaken cell phone ringtone was bad, wait until you hear what prompted panic among school administrators at L’Anse Creuse High School in Michigan (emphasis mine):

L’Anse Creuse High School was shut down Tuesday morning after a former student, who now works at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, entered the building around 6 a.m.

Security concerns were raised because the man was dressed in camouflage.

Apparently the former student had just left work at the base and went to the school looking for a letter of recommendation.

He was confronted by a cleaning person who told him the counselor he was looking for was not in the building.

Yes, camouflage is apparently now synonymous with the threat of unfettered violence.

Here’s more from ClickonDetroit:

The former student left the school without incident.

Sheriff’s deputies were called in to check the building, but nothing was found.

Macomb County Sheriff Tony Wickersham tells Local 4 the former student was not armed and was questioned by police.

He was released.

Students who were being bussed to the school were taken to a safe location while the security sweep was being done.

Spoiler alert: If you’ve seen the movie Batman Begins, read on.  If you haven’t seen it, go watch it.  It’s awesome.

Today’s ongoing paranoia about violence and anti-gun fear-mongering remind me of Batman Begins because the “bad guys” in the film derived their power from fear.  You might remember one scene in the movie where notorious gangster Carmine Falcone threatens Bruce Wayne:

Bruce Wayne: I didn’t come here to thank you. I came here to show you that not everyone in Gotham’s afraid of you.
Carmine Falcone: Only those who know me, kid. Look around you: you’ll see two councilmen, a union official, a couple off-duty cops, and a judge.
[points a gun at Bruce]
Carmine Falcone Now, I wouldn’t have a second’s hesitation of blowing your head off right here and right now in front of ‘em. Now, that’s power you can’t buy! That’s the power of fear.

In fear, there is power.  And whether you’re the good guy who, as Bruce Wayne says, works “to turn fear against those who prey on the fearful,” or you’re the bad guy looking to manipulate those fears for your own benefit, the mere presence of fear is one of the most powerful tools to have at your disposal.  The main antagonists in the film try to destroy Gotham City — not by using bombs or guns, but by using fear.  This fear, Batman notes, would ultimately tear the city apart through mass panic.  In other words, the power to destroy the fabric of society already resides within human beings — if you know how to use it, you can gain power over others.

Fear has significant implications in today’s politics.  There’s a reason politicians rely so heavily on “scare tactics” — it’s because they understand how fear is a part of the human condition that can be used to shape opinion, values, traditions, etc.  If you smoke, you’ll get cancer.  If you pollute, the earth will flood.  If we allow guns, people will die.

Simply put, author Dan Brown notes: “Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.”  That’s why this gun control debate (and others) will go on long past our lifetimes, and why freedom in history has been fleeting and rare.

P.S. Thank you for allowing me to indulge in a bit of cinematic philosophy.  Hope you enjoyed it.

Youre right, there IS a reason for all of this anti-gun paranoia: the never ending grasping at America’s heart by the greedy, insatiable hand of international Zionism. Gun control is a Zionist plot. Literally 100% of ALL the top gun grabbers in this country are either wealthy Jews, or outspoken gentile Zionists. Gun ownership by good, honest, non-elitist Americans is the last bulwark standing between what little freedom we have last, and the totalitarian control of Israeli thugs and the criminal banking/drug smuggling cartels. Call me a conspiracy theorist, call me an anti-Semite (even though 95% of all American and Israeli Jews are white Europeans with absolutely ZERO semitic heritage), but if you ignore this warning, you will look back years from now when you have nothing left, and they have it all, and you will realize you should have listened instead of feigning Politically Correct Outrage.

It is amazing how willfully and impenetrably ignorant the left-wing is to the truth of this matter. How it is that crime has been declining while gun ownership has been expanding the last 20 years or so. That testimony by Amanda Collins and Evan Todd before the Colorado legislature makes no difference to those politicians determined to enact inordinately useless firearms legislation. Indeed, dangerous legislation because it will certainly have a deleterious effect upon public safety. May gun owners not be fearful to resist “laws” that are no laws and take seriously the words of Jefferson who noted that the tree of liberty must occasionally be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots. Let’s hope that for the foreseeable future that blood is only symbolic.

“The Power of Fear” and the Obama administration wields it like pros. They can whip their following of “USEFUL IDIOTS” into a panic stricken frenzy with the snap of their fingers. Everything that has even the most remote appearance of having anything to do with a gun just sends the democrat “Useful Idiots” in distemper fit. If it wasn’t so pitiful and stupid to watch it happening, I’d say that it’s funny, but brainwashed creatures have actually been programed to believe what they’re saying. Their minds belong to and are totally controlled by the government now; they are devoid of control of their own thoughts.

Just think about what this whole over-reaction costs the tax payer. If the school had concealed carry employees, there would be less fear. Our Leftist Government wants you to be afraid, no matter how much of your time and money they waste on NON-SOLUTIONS. It is past time to take our country back. The Looney Left are FAILING, Detroit Style. My friend has a camouflage tuxedo and is coming to YOUR School. Now What ?

Good analysis but what is the end game? Seems to me this is yet a contunuation of a age old argument between natural rights as defined by those around the revolution and civil rights. The fear is surrounded by solutions offered by those who would control you for political and ultimately material & financial gain? To believe in natural rights given by God..you have to believe in God. Destroy the concept of God and you by definition have no natural rights..only civil rights. Create enough fear along with control based government solutions and you drown out the concept of natural rights given by God….and you take away the entire foundation of philosophy that is the basis of our Constitution. Take away that and you have transformed this nation to one that is not based in the belief of God and therefore Natural rights to one where all things are controled by man and man derived government solutions best for a collective…civil rights. If all you have are civil rights, you effectively have no individual rights, only those granted by the governent.. all things from property to health care are now…well you get the idea. Who wins? I’m pretty certain we don’t. The government for all effective porposes now has god like powers over every facet of your life. Pied Piper of our time.

Well said. In God I trust and will defend with my last breath all that he has blessed me with. My children, my wife, my faith and my freedom are my blessings. With the wepons of war and his light in my heart I shall defend it all.
