I’ve gotta say, I really like the possibilities of this Detroit News story…
Before the Lord gets a hold of him, Michigan Republicans should consider locking him up.
The state GOP hasn’t won a U.S. Senate race in Michigan since 1994. With the retirement of Democratic incumbent Sen. Carl Levin, Republicans believe they have a shot at the seat in 2016.
Carson, if he could be lured back to his native state, would bring national attention to the race, as well as national dollars. There are few things conservatives love more than a black Republican. And one of Carson’s stature would draw money out of moldy GOP wallets everywhere.
Carson would help a party addicted to white suburban candidates intrigue young and urban voters, black and white, who grew up looking at his picture hanging on their classroom walls.
Carson has a charisma not often found in GOP politicians. Imagine this guy working the stump with the message he’s been testing of self-reliance and personal responsibility, coming from someone who’s proven anything is still possible in America.
NRO’s Avik Roy agrees:
This idea is simply too good. At a time when the chaotic implementation of Obamacare will be front and center, Carson will be able to speak intelligently about Obamacare’s flaws.
The American Thinker also notes that this could be an amazing opportunity, not only for Michigan Republicans, but also a big step toward regaining a Republican majority in the Senate:
No one has been elected to president as first political office since Eisenhower. It is unlikely to happen again. If he has political ambitions, this seat would be a good place for Carson to start, picking up an open Senate seat, and maybe helping GOP regain control of Senate.
Despite the potential, Carson recently admitted that running for office is not “at the top of my agenda.”
“My agenda is to encourage the discussion, encourage openness, and hopefully get to a point where we stop getting into corners and firing at each other and acting like third-graders,” Carson told Fox News. “If God has other plans for me, he certainly will manifest those, but I don’t expect that to happen any time in the near future.”

Mar. 24, 2013 at 4:19amSure just what we need another senator that does not believe the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Carson’s second amendment interpretation is dangerous for America.
Please Beck bots do some research and stop being so weak and influenced by the blaze and Beck.
Think for yourself, and research the facts.

Mar. 22, 2013 at 11:27amDr. Carson, please do not run for any public office. You have answered your calling in medicine, and made amazing discoveries. The movie which was made a few years ago with Cuba Gooding Jr, as in all movies, never tell of a person’s real life journey as it occurred.
You are a gift from a wonderful mother.
Please be the person that can inspire the uninspired youth of this country. We need this far more that we need another politician. Children are the future of this nation, and they are not receiving the education, support, encouragement and training to become productive citizens. Not all children have a mother like yours, and some do not have fathers that care.
You have a wonderful demeanor that seems to be calming, yet captures the attention of the audience. This would be a tremendous asset to use to help our children, especially in the public education areas, which students have fewer opportunities of becoming exceptional citizens. You may even educate a liberal or two!
I realize that your faith will guide you, and you will follow where it leads, but I sincerely hope this is an issue you will give prayerful attention.
