From the people who brought you Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth now comes “a cable network for millenials,” starring liberal media darling Meghan McCain.

The new network, dubbed pivot, will launch on Aug. 1, with 40+ million subscribers at the time of its launch and more than 300 hours of original programming, including six new greenlit series.

Among the greenlights: An “open source” variety show, “HitRECord on TV!” from Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Hosted and co-produced by Gordon-Levitt, the series — which has been greenlit for seven half-hour episodes, will feature Levitt focusing on a different theme each week as he “invites and encourages anybody with an internet connection to join him and contribute.”

(I’d be remiss if I didn’t insert here this fantastic plug from the host — you know, that kid from 3rd Rock From the Sun?  He says, AND I QUOTE, “[It isn't] a variety show like, ‘here, let’s talk and plug your next project,’ it’s like ‘let’s just do a whole bunch of really fun sh*t.’”  Awesome.)

McCain, meanwhile, will be the subject of a “genre-busting docu-talk series” dubbed “Raising McCain” that will follow her as she hits the road to speak to “unexpected experts, regular people and members of her generation, exploring the most important and unusual questions of the day framed by Meghan’s experiences in her personal life.” The series has received an order for 10 half-hour episodes.

That’s just fantastic.  I assume the “genre” you’re talking about “busting” is…  good television?

Seriously, this just sounds delightful:

The network, set to launch in August, plans to have a reach of 40 million cable subscribers.

“We’re told … that young people can’t have news because we’re just tweeting all the time, and that’s just bullsh**,” McCain said during the presentation for the launch of pivot.

See, it’s totally cool because it involves swearing… and it’s like all ironic and stuff because… the name of the network is spelled with a lowercase p.

Dear America, if ever there was a time for this, now would be it. May God have mercy on our souls.
