Sen. John McCain’s fifth term in the United States may not bring about the Arizona Republican’s retirement as many have predicted. As it turns out, McCain is thinking about seeking reelection in 2016 when he will be 80 years old.

McCain announced his potential plans Tuesday on KFYI-AM, a Phoenix talk-radio station.

“I’m seriously thinking about maybe giving another opportunity for you to vote for or against me in a few years from now,” the 2008 GOP presidential nominee said. “I’m seriously giving that a lot of thought… I’m certainly getting a lot of encouragement from our business community who’s overwhelmingly upset about what we did in shutting down the government because of what it did to their businesses and Arizona’s economy.”

Asked by KFYI host Barry Young to clarify if he was saying he might run again, McCain replied: “That would not be wrong.”
