Just in from Al Jazeera America:
With 12 news bureaus around the country, Al Jazeera America already has one of the largest footprints of any newsgathering organization in the U.S. Under the accelerated growth plan, it will add additional bureaus over the next 6 to 12 months. Al Jazeera America’s commitment to reporting stories that typically are not covered elsewhere will be enhanced as the new bureaus are opened and additional staff is deployed.
That comes as part of a larger release announcing an “accelerated growth plan” by the Qatar-funded network, including an increase in staff, new programming and a bump in advertising across the country.
A spokeswoman would not confirm the number of new bureaus AJA is scheduled to open nor the cities in which they would open.
AJA announced earlier this month that major cable provider Time Warner has picked up the channel, giving it access to 12 million more homes across the country.
