It was a toy drone.

After demonstrating the the drone has a “laser,” Paul said he’s “been trying to get an invite to the Democrat lunch for about a year now,” but that he hasn’t secured an invitation. “So, you know, I think I’m going to send my drone in,” he said.

Using a remote control, Paul then made the drone fly into the air for a few seconds before it landed back on the table in front of him.

Paul has made a name for himself opposing the Obama administration’s policies in using drones to combat Al Qaeda. In March of 2013, he engaged in a 13-hour active filibuster against the policies.

We reached out to Sen. Lee’s office for details on the gift.

“The drone came from Brookstone,” a spokeswoman told TheBlaze Blog. “No special instructions included. It just seemed like an appropriate gift for Senator Paul.”

According to Brookstone’s website, the store sells four different models of toy drones. They range in price from $249.99 to $369.99.
