Conservative musician Ted Nugent said during a radio interview Friday that he regrets calling President Obama a “subhuman mongrel.”

“I did cross the line,” Nugent said on “The Ben Ferguson Show.” He continued, “I do apologize, not necessarily to the president, but on behalf of much better men than myself, like the best governor in America, Gov. Rick Perry…”

Perry said on CNN the previous day that Nugent’s comment was “inappropriate.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also tweeted that Nugent should apologize.

The mea culpa came just a few hours after Nugent seemed to defend the “mongrel” comment on Twitter.
