A story at The Daily Beast about Russian political commentator Dmitry Kiselyov describes him as a pro-Vladimir Putin, “homophobic, conspiracy-spouting propagandist.” Also, the headline on the story calls him “the Glenn Beck of Russia.”

It’s an odd comparison, considering Beck, who owns TheBlaze, is decidedly not pro-Putin and his reputation is, deservedly or not, the opposite of pro-government of any type. And, as it turns out, Beck has spoken out against Russia’s anti-gay policies and in the past has made remarks in favor of marriage equality.

So, what happened?

James Kirchick, who wrote the story, told TheBlaze Blog he didn’t write the headline with the Beck reference, though he didn’t say whether he agreed with the comparison.

We’ve reached out to The Daily Beast’s press team for some clarification.
