2012 GOP Vice Presidential candidate and Chairman of the House Budget Committee Paul Ryan (R-WI) is planning a bus tour in connection with the release of his forthcoming “The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea.”
In a move that is sure to fuel speculation about a 2016 presidential run, Politico writes that the congressman’s lawyers recently received an advisory opinion from the FEC indicating as such.
The FEC response stems from a June letter written by Ryan’s lawyers, soliciting the FEC’s opinion on certain promotional activities that Ryan intends to partake in in connection with the release of his book.
In the letter, Ryan’s legal team writes that the congressman plans on taking a bus tour to be paid for by the book’s publisher that will exclude any travel through the state of Wisconsin, and purchasing copies of his book through his Ryan for Congress campaign committee to be distributed to supporters and contributors, among other traditional marketing activities.
According to the June letter, Ryan’s book will:
delve into the state of the conservative movement in America today, discuss how it contrasts with liberal progressivism, and explain what must be done to save what Congressman Ryan refers to as the “American Idea.” The Way Forward will also challenge conventional thinking, renew the conservative vision for 2014 and beyond, and show how that vision is essential for the well-being of our communities and the
future of our nation.
Politico notes that tour stops are already planned, as “Ryan will be in Pensacola, Florida, on Aug. 22 to sign copies of his book. And he’ll appear at the Reagan Library in California Aug. 28.”
